I dyed my hair permenent black about a month ago but it is already starting to fade. I first of all looked at the instructions on the packet to see if it said anything about fading colour but all the advice given was on treating 'regrowth'. I considered dying all my hair again with the same colour but wondered if that could damage it.

Re-colouring your hair should be fine as long as you follow these steps. First apply the black to your roots and leave for the full development time. 10 minutes BEFORE the development time is up comb the colour through to the ends. Use more product if you have to but this should only stay on for the last 10 minutes or so. What this will do is put back the bit that faded with as little damage as possible. You need to condition your hair regularly to avoid fading but with home colour you will find it fades quite fast. If you were blonde or light brown to start with then it will take a few times before the hair is full of colour.

Get some Revlon Color Silk non ammonia dye. Make a solution of 1 part hair dye to 3 parts shampoo. Shampoo is an "expander" but with it diluted by so much the dye won't be as strong and will brighten the faded hair. Mix the dye and developer (the creamy stuff) in a separate container to get the 1:1 ratio correct then add it to the shampoo. About 1/3 a bottle of each works well. Add this to 2 ounces of a color safe shampoo. Leave on 20 minutes. You can do this every few weeks with little to no hair damage as it's non ammonia.

The best thing to do when you color your hair is use shampoo's for color treated hair. They help to prevent fading. If you did dye your hair a month ago, you can do it again. Make sure you only color the roots first. then in the last 10 min of the color processing, pull the color to the ends. Never put color on your ends for the full timing of the color. That will damage your hair. I have clients that I use what you call a demi permanent color on their hair. It holds the color for a lot longer than permanent dye. Good luck.

i advise you to be VERY careful when dying over your colored treated hair; especially with a different brand of hair color. Hair dye is, after all, chemicals and chemicals have been known to react with each other and you are not a chemist.
I think your safest option would be to get your hair professionally re-dyed or else you may end up with a shade of hair that God has not even thought of creating. And let's face it, black pigment is almost impossible to remove from hair so one mistake could leave you with many tears and corrective color appointments in your future.
After you get your hair re-dyed it would be wise to invest in a professional brand shampoo and conditoner formulated for color treated hair to keep the color fresher longer. Also apply a small ammount of sunscreen to it if you are going to be out in the sun. I suggest putting a dime sized ammount of an SPF 30 lotion in the palm of your hand then rubbing your hands together before running them through your hair.

properly i'm a qualified cosmetologist and coloring your hair "Jet Black" can pose truly some issues. each now and then your hair can turn blue if the colour you used has a blue base. be careful on which variety you employ. once you purchase the field hair colour look on the bottom colour and flow from there. in case your hair is already darkish brown you mustn't have any issues yet once you've ANY blonde or red on your hair you are able to get a "new colour" once you attempt to flow black. Black is amazingly very now problematic to do. as quickly because it truly is black it will be black until eventually it grows out or your hair receives truly damaged attempting to bleach it out. reliable luck

You need color shampoo! I know it seems a hassle but beleive me, its worth it. All colors will fade some but black is hard to keep in. Coloring it again will do some damage but not as much as everyone will proclaim. You'll need to do it, to retouch your roots anyway.
