This is a good choice. It is good to see that you want a acting career. You didn't say how old you were. As it may make a difference in my answer. If you are not out of school then stay in school and graduate. If you are out of school then go to college and enroll in acting school.. Learn to bus tables, or waiter, or take odd jobs for the next 5 years. As you will need to get an agent, getting odd jobs will pay for the rent as you struggle with casting calls. You will need to be up at the crack of dawn to make these acting calls, then work all night to support the measly money they will pay you if you do get a break and get a job. But I like your stamina so go for it. Be sure you like to share your room with someone while you are working to get that first break. Tell your parents the truth and maybe they will help you. If they don't it is your choice and your life sure go for it. Just be sure you understand that it is a lot of hard work, disappointment, sad times, and struggling to me ends meet. Good Luck

Remember, you need a BACKUP PLAN ... and yes, that can include a career that provides a steady and decent income while you are awaiting that "Acting" career to take off.
That is the biggest problem with a lot of those folks that have the 'acting bug' ... they FORGET that there are expensives of every day life that MUST be met. When you can meet your daily life expenses (and still be able to work on the Acting Career around the Daily work), that is the IDEAL situation.

Research all of the ins and outs of the business. Only a handful of people who are interested in acting actually "make it."
Would you be willing to put in years at an acting college? Would you be willing to starve and not have any money coming in for possibly years while you audition? Would you be willing to accept the fact that maybe you don't have the talent and perseverance required for acting?
Your parents may be more willing to accept your choice of an acting career, IF you are more willing to make a second choice also. Find something else you are willing to take on as a career, do a good job at that, pursue acting on the side. At least your parents won't have to support you financially while you are trying to break into acting.

If thats what you want then go ahead. This is your life. Tell your parents they might not like the idea but they will get used to it. I can tell you that my son is currently doing a degree in dance and he himself thought I would not like the idea. If my son is happy doing this then that is fine with me. I wish you good luck with your career.

Try to make your parents understand that this is what you really want and follow your heart. I'm sure they will learn to accept what you choose and support you in your decision. Parents just want the best for their kids.
