With councils now threatening to prosecute if rubbish is left lying around or not in correct bags for collection, surely with all the council tax we pay the least councils could do is supply enough rubbish bags. You might say about wheelie bins but these are not suitable for everybody, what about the elderly, frail and disabled.

We have wheelie bins as well, also we purchased a compost bin which is really use full. Now twice a month we take all our plastic bottles to the recycle bin at Morrison's plus, just in case you are wondering we walk as we do not have a car.
Since doing this we seem to always have room in our bin.
As for bin bags from the council, why get your own its not as if they cost a fortune.

Your council gives out dustbin bags?! Wicked, ours don't!!!

From working as a PA in the chief executives office, I have learnt the best way of making a complaint, which if you feel its necessary, you certainly should do. What you do is write a letter of complaint, detailing your arguement and who (if anyone) you have spoken to about it, then make sure you tell them what outcome you want (more bags, or more often etc). When it gets to the chief executive, it is then logged and forwarded to the relevant person and the head of their department, to be resolved. They should then contact you and sort out, or explain whats what.
If they don't, or you're still not happy, write back to the chief executive and refer back to the first letter, saying that nothing happened/no response etc. (You should always give it 14 days, or you seem unreasonable). Ask them to ensure the matter is sorted, they then contact the head of dept and give them a 'what for' and they also tell them to sort it out properly. 95% of the time, you'll get what you want or some happy compromise. Obviously all councils work slightly different, but this particular senario seems to be standard.

In our council, the binmen will actually fetch the dustbins of people who can't put them out for whatever reason, you have to call the refuse dept and ask for it though.

At least you get bags. We have to buy our own and in a family as large as mine 1 blue wheelie bin and 1 green wheelie bin are not enough.

Isn't it awful? I really don't know what we pay our council tax for. My council haven't done my shopping for me since I moved here 12 years ago. It's no wonder kids are rampaging the streets with hooded guns when the powers that be are so lax.

Oh dear.
Councils have enough worthy causes to spend money on.
Just buy your own, and stop complaining.
