I have been reading a lot about convection ovens (range style) and am considering buying one. I have read all the good things like faster cooking times and lower temperatures and am wondering if there are any negatives. I have never used one before. Are they worth the extra money to buy one?

Hi Skipsmom,
Speaking from experience (chef) they do cook faster, heat is
distributed inside, so all round cooking of same heat ie: no need
for turning etc so no hassles and power saving and they have
self cleaning attributes so less mess..... enjoy

Convection oven is just a regular oven with a fan in it.
Moving hot air cooks faster than static hot air.
So once you get the timing correct, everything goes good.

The problems is re learning all your cooking times, because I normally use 25 degrees colder and timing is different on everything.
Another plus things seem to bake more evenly. I think it's worth the money.

I have used one, and I have to say, I loved the fact it cooked so much faster, and because the heat blows around, the cooking is more even. The only downside I can think of is that you may overcook your food until you get used to it. You'll have to re-adjust your baking times.

I've found them to dry out meats if you're not percise with them.
