He's as tame as he'll ever be, I hand-fed him and ever since he's been able to bite he attacks my hands with full force even though he always wants to be close to them. In the spring he sings to them...and tries to do "other" things to them. It's wierd. Is it possible that he thinks he's a hand? I know they're territorial and aren't nice to other grossbeaks. I've tried hosing my hands down with bitter apple and he must like the way that stuff tastes or something. Any suggestions?

What type of grosbeak is it? is it a male? how long has he been acting this way ? I hope it's not one of the native grosbeaks as they are protected and it is illegal to have them. Otherwise it's possible after being raised by your hand especially if the "other" thing he does to your hand is try to breed. If it's one of the protected species I'd recommend handing it over to a wildlife rehab center or anyone else that has the appropriate licensing. If it's a domestic finch of some sorts, don't pull your hand back when he bites or it might become a game of some sorts, when he bites try blowing on him, most birds don't like that (most...) and he might learn not to bite.
