If your a working person or a student full time

I think vacations are what they were devised for. To give you a break in your every day grind. It helps you reduce stress, take a breath and Get Away from the Grind. Employers know that an employee needs a break to be productive.

So what you do depends on what you enjoy.
A resort is great and some people feel that a trip has to be in order to have a vacation. That is great but it is a financial expense and not always a very relaxing or the thing you need. If you stress because of cost, traffic, accomodations and whatever.. no trip gives you that vacation refill.

Sometimes a vacation to help a parent or best friend is great. Some of those vacations will stay with you through the years as a wonderful time in your life much longer than a vacation trip to Hawaii.

I've done both and I believe the warmest memories where with friends and family. Doing something big or small, going on a trip or working on the house.

Quality time for you. Helping others is good for you and gives you a great sense of well being. If you hate doing it and resent doing it. Heck... go sit in your car for a week. It is also good to realize that maybe your quality time that is needed might be just being by yourself. There are times in all lives that time alone is needed to rebuild.

Just remember, vacation is a time for yourself and sometimes what you need is time with family & friends with no bells that ring and tell you it is time to go home. Sometimes you need to get to a new view, a place you've never seen often helps you leave the worries of home, life, relationships, work and etc. back at home.

Use your vacation to fill your deepest need and refill your mind and soul for the next year of grind.

Basically: I prefer to use my vacations to feel better and refreshed. Get my happy thoughts going and just quit punching the time clock.

You know, when my parents were alive, my siblings/I would use our LEAVE time (we were young adults on Active Duty in the Military) and go home and help them maintain the home/lawn and the vehicles/appliances, whatever they wanted done, we would do.

Then as I pur myself through UGrad Program, endured that short disaster of a marriage, put myself through Grad Degree, raised my children as a Long Term Single Parent (with SOLELY MY Income to provide for them ...ex was deadbeat), and went through Retirement and now transitioning once again to new stage of Retirement ... I ended up doing a LOT of work around my home on my days off ... there was not much else of a choice, especially since the children were involved in after school events ($$$), Scouting/Camps (more $$$$), and yes, other organized activities.

NOW .. this Empty-Nesting Single Retiree is FREE ... and I am going to be travelling back to visit my siblings and yes, the time is spent WORKING and helping them with chores too ... just the way I was raised ... family is FAMILY, and you need to help family out whenever you can.

I am happy doing whatever. If there are things to do at home, of course they take priority. But if not I personally would like to sit my butt on a beach and relax.

ask yourself which one is the best, then choose what you think is the closest to your heart's liking, remember, everything depends on how you see things and how you react...
