A lot of religious folks (not spiritual) have no REAL faith, so they must DEFEND their faith tooth and nail out of fear.
And on the flip side of that coin, a lot of atheistic folks have been crapped on so much by religious organizations and SELF-PROCLAIMED representatives of God, they can't wait to SLAM those self-righteous church-goers.
I've walked both sides of the line and I've found that extremes in ANY direction will not only chase the average person away, but will just start all kinds of ruckus.
And staying somewhere in between will ALWAYS upset the fanatics at EITHER end of the spectrum...But once again, if I were the Devil that's exactly how I'd keep things.

Who suggested Atheism is a faith? Atheism isn't a faith. Come thoroughly...''Atheists are the adult men and ladies who do no longer have faith something without perfect evidence''. Who worried approximately them or their worry or their standards? First, there is no atheists right here in india. Atheists are extra in christianity, and interior the western worldwide places. There are as many motives for being an atheist as there are atheists: the line to atheism has a tendency to be very own and individual, based upon the concentrated circumstances of a character’s existence, reports, and attitudes. nevertheless, that's achievable to describe some standard similarities which tend to be original between quite in simple terms some atheists, extraordinarily atheists in the West. that's a dazzling question; regrettably, it isn’t fairly uncomplicated to respond to. Many atheists discover their strategies-set to disbelief with the help of way of technology. Over the centuries technology has come to modern factors of aspects of our word that have been as quickly as the unusual element of religion. on the grounds that scientific factors have been extra effective than non secular or theistic factors, the aptitude of religion to call for allegiance has weakened. consequently, some persons have come to fullyyt reject now no longer simplest faith, yet additionally thought interior the existence of a god. For them, gods are ineffective as an reason in the back of any function of the universe and furnish no longer something properly worth investigating. have you ever ever heard of 'clever atheists'? that's a class utilized with the help of a few non secular theists to describe countless those theists who technically sense in a god, in spite of the incontrovertible fact that who behave immorally. the thought is that ethical habit follows immediately from actual theism, hence immoral conduct is an fairly outcome of now no longer actually believing. Theists who behave immorally have have been given to quite be atheists, in spite of what they think approximately.

Simple: religion and philosophical beliefs are two of a few things that REALLY gets us fired up. Seeing the word "atheism" in your question looks to people like a chance to belt out their beliefs and beat others down.

Actually mayor, I thought you were handing out free pie...
Probably because the fundies want controversy. And Christianity is a word too commonly used/seen to excite anyones nervous system. But atheism is a less used trigger that still has major religous connotations. So people click on it.
Oh and the atheists don't like getting bashed either.

Well...as a logical atheist, is it really that hard to figure out? You put the word "atheist" in a message title in a forum labeled "Religion and Spirituality" - where theists and atheist are constantly at one another's throat - and you're going to get responses. Since both sides are so inflammatory and insulting towards one another, the theists are looking for another chance to defend their respective beliefs and the atheists are looking to defend theirs. Neither side wants to simply celebrate their own beliefs; they want to verbally beat everyone who disagrees with them into submission.

Certain questions do end up getting more attention then others. I have noticed that as well. I have no idea. My only guess would be because people either are trying to defend themselves or people want to pick fights with a specific group.
