How about Salvador Dali?
I've always felt his work is quite spiritual.
Have a look at: Crucifixion, Christ of St. John of the Cross, The Temptation of St. Anthony and The Madonna of Port Lligat

Why not make the search engine do the work. Pump up, art and religion, religious artists, contemporary religious artists. May be put in images first. Alternatively, have a look at the work of Stanley Spencer. If you really want something different than the old masters in religion.

How about Gustave Moreau? He was a French painter, part of the Symbolist movement and he concentrated on Christian and mythological images. He particularly focused on anti-heroines like Salome.

Why don't you google art + spirituality? You are likely to find Rothko as your first example, but there may be some that give you better ideas.

I suggest you Peter Breughel the Elder.
If you make an effort to analyse some of his paintings, which are full of symbols including religious, you could do it!
