I said it before on YA....
Supporting the troops means more than standing at side of road and waving a little American Flag when troops prepare to deploy.
U.S is always giving VETS the fid.
Bragging about an increase of VA funding 2 or 3 Billion Dollars.
Chickenfeed.
excerpt from link
There's a great deal more to supporting our troops than sticking a $2 yellow ribbon magnet made in China on your SUV. There's a great deal more to it than making "Support Our Troops" a phrase that every politician feels obliged to utter in every speech, no matter how banal the topic or craven the purpose.
This week, we were treated to a new expose of just how fraudulent and shallow and meaningless "Support Our Troops" is on the lips of those in charge of spending the half a trillion dollars of taxpayers' money that the Pentagon eats every year.

To throw a couple of Billion Dollars at a GROSSLY underfunded agency(the VA) only makes it a BADLY underfunded agency.
Not good enough.

Many for the rest of their lives.

Your statement is true. My dad went over seas about 3 years ago and yes supporting is more than putting a yellow magnet and your car and saying thank you to teh ones that sacraficed there lives...but really all you can do is tell them they are in your prayers, and hope to see them soon. And when they come home you could get the whole city involved if you live in a small one, by putting flagsup or have a welcoming somewere, or get your wendys, arbys, whatever to post on there sign WELCOME HOME ....... AND THNK YOU FOR ALL YOU'VE DONE.

"Support our Troops" is a phrase used by those that are standing behind a failed mission. Supporting our troops to me means getting them the heck out of that civil war.
What makes matters worse is the fact that the VA is NOT properly funded for the escalation in the users due to this war. It is thought that this underfunding is something new when it is not. This problem has existed since the Vietnam war yet society has chose to ignore it hoping that the problems will go away and thus allowing the Vietnam war veterans to go away thereby making that war go away. Yes the words from the Politicians are all contrite now, where have they been and what would have been if those few reporters had not dug up those disgraceful conditions. Lets send more to get mamed in that useless war!!

I agree. The spending for the war is in the wrong places. Not only is that going on in the VA, but the soldiers are not being provided with the best grade equipment they could be. Supporting our troops means putting the money where it really needs to go. And taking the boys home in a meaningless war.
Leogirl, we are the only industrialized nation in the world without nationalized health care and it is an atrocity. When I served in the Peace Corps the government provided me with the BEST health care I've ever had and I have had very good and cost effective policies. The military is a seperate and strange identity.

Yes I support out troops and so does President Bush. Bush cares more about the soldiers than Clinton ever did. Remember what Clinton said while he was draft dodging, " I loathe the military". The few examples of bad conditions we see in military facilities are the result of Clinton's cuts, not the rebuild Bush started.

Support the troops is just another silly three worded public relations slogan used by the Bush/Rove people to manipulate unintelligent people. No different than...Army of one, Stay the course, cut and run etc etc. People sat around a table and came up with these sayings to influence the uneducated. ANd it worked!

Mobilize people in your community to put pressure on your state congresspeople for change. That's all we can do. And in theory, it's supposed to work.
