I'm doing a little market research for my up and coming small business.
would you rather shop for baby goods on the internet or high street and why?
What features would a web site have to have to encourage you to buy baby & childrens products from it?
What features would you like a baby & childrens goods web site to offer, eg discount card for returning customers, a cataloge as well as the web site ect?

- High street because I'd get the full information of the baby products. I'll know that they are usable and efficient.
- Good full information on the product, and low prices.
- Catalouge, definitely, and coupons for first-time customers, and yes a membership card for discounts.

Best of luck!

Q1 - I'd rather buy in a store (is that what "high street" is?). If I'm buying stuff for my baby, I'd rather check out the quality in person. Plus it's more fun that way, looking at the colors, feeling the soft textures, etc.

Q2 - A no-hassle return policy and an easy returns process as well as products from quality vendors. Also, the site needs to convey a very customer-friendly interface and messaging. This is achieved a lot of ways, but I'll just say that an intuitive layout and easy to find links (esp. to customer service) are big pluses.

Q3 - Yes, a coupon would be great. What a lot of stores do is offer the customer to sign up for their e-newsletter through which the customer can get notice on sales and receive a coupon code to enter during checkout. First-time customers appreciate free shipping or a discount. I also like the ability to save items to a wish list. And don't forget about gift registries (allowing people to open a registry and have their friends buy from the site, which would update the registry automatically).

Since I am a web designer, I might be able to offer more tips or advice. E-mail to let me know.

Good luck.

I love to go shopping out side my home but lately i find it less stressful and more convenient to just hit the web. What i look for mostly is a web site that offers competitive prices, reasonable shipping and handling,a variety of products and a sale section. The cataloge is not a must but a added bonus because i have found after my order came and there was a cataloge included and i sat down and looked at it there were always other stuff i wanted that i had not seen on the web.So that ment returning to the computer and placing another order.A discount card for returning customers would be a sure fire way to get more orders from the same people, espeacialy if you offered like a small rewards program example if they returned to order again they get 10% off, then when they reached a spending limit of say $250.00 they get 15% then $500.00 got them 20% off but each time they returned if they had not reached a spending limit yet then they got the 10% off for being a returning customer. Also if they were purchasing for a gift offer gift shipping with a invoice with everything but the price and payment used.Hope this helps out some good luck hope it all works out for you

I would say I prefer shopping online but only because there's really not allot in the way of shops round me, only Mothercare and you can comfortably shop online at home all snug.

I don't think a web site necessarily needs a load of features to attract people, just good products and maybe some cute babies and children, maybe a bit colourful.

A catalogue is a good idea, some sites already do this but it takes ages to received one. It should have the option of a store card but shouldn't be rammed down peoples throats.
Maybe a 10% discount for a first online shop, something like that.

Hope this helps.

I am currently trying for a baby and am so excited about looking through shops for the things i need. Shopping over the internet would be too impersonal -

try before you buy would be good to encourage

eg discount card for returning customers, a cataloge as well as the web site would be good

-High street, coz it's more personal and you can meet other mothers doing their baby shopping. Also you don't have to wait for delivery!

-Good range of products from very simple, low priced goods, to some designer stuff... Aslo, the actual site should be fast, I have given up on so many e-shops because the site takes so long to load!

-Discounts would be good, like a "loyalty card" sort of scheme, for those who buy a lot through the site. Also, if you did a promotion such as "Baby basket" - a free gift for when expectant mothers have their babies... Or something along those lines.

Hope I helped. :-)

I'd rather buy in a store . If I'm buying stuff for my baby, I'd rather buy it in person,
looking at the colours, how it feels, comparing items
that great feeling you get when you pay for the item/items
i love shopping
the internet is the lazy way to shop
you get fresh air & excercise
theres no better way to shop

i would only buy from retail outlets only because you can touch the products and make sure they meet your needs. the only way i would buy online is if i was offered a free money back trial. i wouldn't take up the trial unless my p&p were refunded too though. i would however buy more of a product i have already used online. discounts are great if offered to new customers and then a loyalty card should be issued.

Hi. I do and would prefer to buy on the net for baby goods. It is easier for me as i live in a village and by the time i have used my petrol to get to town and pay for a car park that would surely cover the p&p? I and my hubby have one son, i am unable to have anymore children and we find it hard to cope with, so, on the net saves me having to see all the pregnant ladies and all the lovely clothes etc up close. That baby talc and baby cream upsets me everytime. Sorry to have gone on. But i would use a baby net shop so i can carry on spoiling my nieces and nephews!! Good luck with it. xx
