I have a 7 month old english bull dog. Her behaviors were starting to get better, she was completely house broken (except for some happy peeing), never soiled her kennel, and seemed to be calming down in general. About a month ago, I took her to get spade. She's been a completely different dog since. Little by little she's reverting back to her behavior as a small puppy, she bit me out of anger, has become more agressive with the other dogs and has now messed her cage 2 days in a row. Does anyone know if there's a reason why dogs go back to acting like the did when they were small puppies and how to change it?

Any time a dogs behavior changes it is time for a trip to the vet. There could be a health problem causing the change.

It may be nothing serious, but you might want to get her thyroid checked if this continues. Sometimes the only symptom is a sudden change in behavior. This happened to someone I know and the vet thought it was a waste of money for her to get that checked, but it so happened that was the problem and the behavior was the only symptom. After the dog was put on medicine the dog was fine.

This is a really common problem with puppies and easily fixed. Dogs from 6 to about 9 months old go through what is akin to the terrible two's. They will test you and revert back to pre-training. Both of my dogs did this. The fix is to go back to ground zero with your puppy. Take him out at least every two hours and remind him to "pee" or "get busy" whatever phrase you used for training. Treat him after he goes. Take him out after meals and play. Go back to your crate training if that is what you used to house train him. I had to do this with both my dogs and luckily they went back to normal behavior within weeks.

Check with your vet if you feel there may be a medical reason. Sometimes after spaying their entire urinary tract feels a bit "odd" to them for a few days to a week. Have the vet check for a urinary tract infection, just to be on the safe side. This is very common in smaller breed dogs.

Lots and lots of attention and love... she may be revenging from having a bad experience at the vet... so take her on long walks and show her love again =) Well good luck to you and your doggy!! just make sure she doesnt have anything to eat or drink 1 hour before she has to go in her cage and to take her out for a walk before you put her in it... thats the only thing that i can think of to help the crate training along so she doesnt mess in her cage anymore... but remember when she bites hold her mouth closed with your hand and say NO BITING in a stern voice, let her know that behavior is UNACCEPTABLE!

Reversion can be associated with a number of things. My first guess would be a lapse of training procedure. Have you altered your level of consistency in training her. If so get back at it. Second would be to ask if you have had her back to the vet's office since she was spayed. If the stitches have been removed or were self-dissolving you may want to check if a subsequent infection has set in. Sometimes if a dog is in pain they may revert to a behavior that will make you leave them alone. Take her back to her vet and then get back into the swing of training.

Perhaps since her surgery you have been babying her some and feeling sorry for her and so she has started to act more like a baby? I suggest supervising her more closely and letting her out more to potty , don't feed her except when you are going to walk her afterwards and you will lessen her chances of pottying in her crate.
