Have you ever slept one night and didn't remember what you dreamt? It seemed like you just laid your head down on the pillow and the next thing you knew it was morning. Was it uncomfortable? Torture? Were you sad? Angry? Worried, jealous, frightened, pained? No. You weren't anything. That in between period of non-awarenss is probably what death is like.

Why do you need to believe in an eternal life? Do you know how long forever is? You've been alive for 20, maybe 60, maybe even 70 years, just to put it in perspective. Forever is longer than a thousand years, a million, longer than 15 billion years. Longer than the entire amount of time that everything we can see has existed multiplied by 100 billion.

Doesn't the short period of time that we have on this planet make it all the more meaningful? Forever is an incredibly long time. If you ask most elderly people they'll tell you that you get tired, not just in terms of needing sleep but tired of life. You've had your time, who wants to live forever? Consider all the things you've done and thought in the short amount of time you've been alive, what would you do with 16 billion years!? Your brain just has a natural desire to continue it's existence, and because unlike a rat or a monkey or a dog it has a fully developed imagination to envision a place where it might go afterwards. The question is, if you're going to believe in an after-life, where are you going? Valhalla? Mount Olympus? And dude, check the conflict in the bible > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychopannychism#Bible_verses_used_to_support_psychopannychism_or_thnetopsychism

And as for a battery, it has no intelligence, no self-awareness no sentience, no consciousness. It's energy is merely expended. And a battery can be recharged, a human being can't come back to life.

What happens to the flame once it is extinguished? It's ashes are scattered in the wind.

EDIT> I noticed some chick wrote that "when a soul dies they go to a better place when a battery dies its just dead", what's the difference between you and the battery?

If a person's name is written in the Book of Life through faith in Christ they go to a better place. Otherwise....

Revelation 20:11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

As to batteries, it all depends upon what type of battery it is. If it is a rechargeable battery then just like a weary soul that turns to Christ for new life, so too can a rechargeable battery go to a "higher power" and get "new life". But if a battery (or a person) is too proud and claims that it is sufficient in and of itself then it is destroyed for it has no further useful purpose to serve.

The soul is imaginary, and batteries go to the landfill or to be recycled. I really don't think a battery has an opinion about which is better.

If that person who dies believed in his God and did right accordingly--Then he is destined toward his heaven or hell.

A battery can not think for its self--but is rather a servant of its environment--To me, I guess a battery's heaven would be a recycle bin? In reference to batteries, I do not speak for batteries
