I don't know about afterlife, but they do hook on to us and steal our light, but only if we invite them in, example being, addictions.

Why do I need a Savior? You know, I'm a pretty good person. I'm honest, I help people, I try to do the right thing. I've never murdered anyone, or stolen anything, or anything like that. So why do I need a savior?
Romans 3:23 tells us "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God".
What does that mean? First of all, it means that there is not a single perfect human being in the world. We have ALL sinned (and probably will again). What is sin? Simply anything that is not in obedience to the laws of God. Because we have all sinned, we "fall short of the glory of God". God is perfect. We are not. Only perfection can be with God in heaven.
Why is it this way?
Romans 5:12 says: Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned--
Sin entered the world through one man - Adam. Ever since Adam sinned, we are all born into that same sin. Because of that spiritual death (separation from God) also entered the world. We are all separated from God (spiritually dead) as a result of sin.
What is the solution?
Our loving God did not let it end with our sin and resulting separation from Him.
Romans 6:23 tells us: For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord
Sin results in spiritual death, but that is not the end! Through Jesus Christ, we can have eternal life! And it costs us nothing! It is a gift from God.
What is this gift of God?
Romans 5:8: But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Because God loved us, even though we were sinners, Christ (God's son), died for us. He took the penalty for our sin. He endured the separation from God during the three days that he was dead. The price has been paid. Our sentence has been served. We can be free.

What do I have to do?
How can I receive this gift? Romans 10:9-10 has the answer.
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
What does God ask of us in return for his gift? Nothing. Nothing except for ourselves. To accept the gift, we must believe in our heart that God has done this for us, and we must tell Jesus that we want to make Him Lord of our life. It is that simple.
What does it mean to make Him Lord? It simply means that we follow Him. We find out what he wants us to do, and we do it.
Romans 10:13 "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
Do you need a Savior? Do you see that you can't make it on your own in this world? Or in eternity? Without Jesus, there is no everlasting life. Without Jesus, there is no peace in today's world. Do you want the peace he offers for today and the assurance of life he offers for eternity?
Then tell him so. That is all you need to do. It doesn't have to be fancy. There are no magic words, no formula to follow. Simply talk to Jesus as if he were a friend sitting beside you (for He is, you know). Tell him that you realize that you can't make it on your own. Tell him you are sorry for the wrong you have done. Tell him you want to follow him, to make Him "Lord" in your life. Then, thank Him that he has saved you, and that you will one day be with Him in heaven.
If you prayed that prayer, then first of all, Congratulations!! Welcome to the family of God. :-) Now, you might be wondering where you go from here. Well, there are several things, which I would encourage you to do:
1. Get yourself a Bible, if you don't already have one. You have only just begun a wonderful journey. The Bible is your roadmap for what is to come. I suggest that you start reading in the book of John (check the table of contents if you don't know where to find it). Follow up with the book of Romans. That should get you started. Don't worry if you don't understand it all. You have the rest of your life to read and study this book and glean all there is to know from it.
2. Find a church. You need support and teaching so that you can grow in your relationship with Jesus Christ. You need encouragement from fellow believers. Your new faith is like a tiny seedling. It needs water, sunlight, and protection so that it can grow strong.
3. Find someone to pray for you. Tell another Christian that you know what you have just done. They will be thrilled! Ask them to pray for you, to help you along if you need it. If you don't know anyone, ask the pastor at the church you find. It is important to have someone right there with you supporting you each step of the way. Or, if you don't have anyone, feel free to e-mail me at JessiJoW@aol.com,and I'll be happy to do what I can to answer any questions or help you along. Even if you have no questions, I'd welcome a note to let me know that this page has made a difference in your life.
Congratulations, on making the most important decision in your whole life!
