I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Western organized religion certainly seems to be the first, though no longer the only, to place human sexuality as a taboo subject. Many early religions, as well as a good amount, practiced today, embraced sexuality as a part of human nature and therefore a means of reaching the divine. Romans and Greeks were well known for there orgies, which were of a religious nature. Celtic traditions included festivals where the entire village engaged in sexual congress with one another and the children spawned from the festival were considered to be blessed.

I did not watch the show. I reviewed the answers to better understand what might have been said. It appears people are condemning the "western organized religion" on their belief of sex in marriage only while attempting to prove how other religions are so wonderful.
No one mentioned the other religions or people where sex was misused. Some Native Americans had different view points. A husband could loan his wife to a visitor for the night. Men had multiple wives. Apache males would remove the nose of an cheating wife. In South America, young virgin women were sacrificed. Why women and not men?
How about the old cliche' of "men want a virgin wife." Yet, men were to play around to gain experience to teach his "virgin wife."
No one mentioned the diseases from the Roman orgies.
If we are going to talk about history, let tell the whole story.

Very true.In hindu religion the lingam ( male sex organ) is worshiped. Most of the temple architecture is full of sexual scenes.Sexual union is described as Ecstasy and bliss. When it comes to western religion anything connected with sex is considered as taboo. That is why priests and monks take a vow of chastity. But they suppress that desire and some do it without being caught.

It's amazing how the Western Civilization seems to have ****** everything up huh? Thousands of years of mankind have embraced sex and multiple partners as a way of life, and then all of a sudden a bunch of scripture twisting morons come along and deem everything but missionary position illegal and immoral. Geez.

I believe sex is a beautiful thing. It was created for both procreation and for our pleasure. The way modern society demonizes it, is deplorable. And by demonizing it, I mean making it completey acceptable for children to see sexualized material during the day on television. I have one simple solution though ... I turn off my television.

I think that western religion is perverted in the way it looks at sex.
If God did not want people to have sex then they would not be able to do it.

I'm really sorry, I missed it... but I did watch a Penn & Teller: Bullshit! episode on sexual abstinence and religion's effects on abstinence-only education.
...it seems the government is sneaking violations of separation of church and state right under our noses. Millions of dollars of our tax money is actually being spent telling people that masturbation is wrong.
Pardon me for being a little pissed.
