Lithium-ion and Lithium-polymer rechargeable are the best known best kinds, but they can be hard to find in AA sizes. If you're very fortunate, try a Lithium-Maganese battery, but you need to get a very rare charger for it, too!
If you just want something garunteed to work, NiMH batteries last about as long as plain old alkalines or nonrechargeable lithium batteries, and they're easy to find in most sizes.

In my opinion, I think the regular duracell or enegizer batteries last as long as the rechargeable ones. My camera came with rechargeable batteries and were recharged once and will not recharge. Knowing I had to buy a recharger and the cost of those batteries, give me the good old alkaline batteries any day.

Rechargeable for sure. It might take a little while to recharge it, but it's a whole lot better than getting a new one.
