an i alrady have a new hard drive an a new power soply but only a fake copy of Windows xp professional so what do you kids think

You get a fake copy of XP? Why not go for Vista. Anyways... Get a real copy, the likely reason its not working is that the Windows subscription isn't activated so Windows isn't going to work properly. This is Windows way to keep hackers from stealing pirated copies of Windows Genuine Operating Systems. For XP I think you get 30 days after initial installation to activate.

the computer will operate more efficiently if you "de-frag" the hard drive
