I have heard it is used to clean off "excess dirt" and help close pores. I'm currently using a gentle cleanser for sensitive skin, then I moisturize before I go to bed.
do you think it's necessary to have one??.. and if so which brand would you reccomend? (I'm not sure if it makes any difference but I have Asian skin... I'm open to any suggestions though)

Ok, toner is a must in skin care. It should not be an option, toner balances your skin ph and in addition to that is does indeed clean any excess oil or dirt from the pores. Now if you are using a good skin care regimine, then you should not be using toner to clean any excess dirt off your face or deep down in your pores, your face wash should get deep down into your pores and keep you clean; toner should just really hydrate some and balance your skin out. I think that every morning you should cleanse, in your specific case, use a gentle cleanser, then tone, and always moisturize! And on top of moisturizer you should wear sunblock no matter how old you are or how tan you are, everyone needs sunblock, now some moisturizers have an spf built into them so try to find one of those, but moisturizer and sunblock are two things that are going to keep your skin healthy and prevent you from premature aging and cancer. Since you have sensitive skin, you should use a make-up line that is suitable for sensitive skin, or at least offers options for your skin type. Depending on what kind of money you want to spend...you may use clinique which has a great skin care line and an incredible moisturizer. In fact their dramatically different moisturizing cream is so good that one is sold every four seconds! I would say that it is reasonably priced and a great start to healthier looking skin! Goodluck!

I have dry skin so i dont use a toner for dyness. But every other day I use a blemish toner because I do get blemishes, or you can use an astringent. BUT if you have dry skin dont over do the toner or astringent, do it either once a day or everyother day...
if you dont have any blemishes then I wouldn't worry too much about it. My cleanser is also a 3-in-1, then i do the toner, then moisterize with two types of creams (only 1 if i didnt use toner). I use Mary Kay and my skin have never been better!

Yeah, use this .We must definietely use a basic skin care system like a cleanser, toner, moisturiser. For your dry sensitive skin use this toner "ARTISTRY DELICATE CARE TONER", the clear, non irritating rinse is free of alcohol and fragrance for the most sensitive skin.Includes a natural ingredient complex of calendula, linden, and chamomile extracts known for their skin soothing properties.
If you have sensitive skin, you want Artistry Delicate Care Toner. It's fragrance- and colourant-free gentle toning formula rinses away any last traces of cleanser and impurities while improving skin texture. All it leaves behind is skin that feels moist, cool, smooth, and refreshed.
Use it with the Delicate Care Cleanser and Calming Moisturiser, or mix and match it with the Moisture Rich Vitalising Cleanser, Moisture Protective Moisturiser, Clarifying Foaming Cleanser, or Clarifying Balancing Moisturiser for a customized system that's as individual as you.

Definitely, toner does remove the excess dirt and oils but it also neutralizes the cleanser and returns the skin to it's normal PH balance.
The trick is to use a toner for your skin type. There isn't one toner suits all, you need to go according to your skin type.
A toner should never burn or dry out your skin, that is not the function.

Only use a toner for your type of skin. Try to avoid alchol based ones. The one to try is from the Almay 1-2-3 skin care line.

it depends on which type you are using. they do have toner for sensitive skin but that may make it worse by drying it out more. keep doing your daily routine and make sure you use sensitive or mild.
