I was brought up with Christian beliefs although I do not believe in the Christian God as such. There probably was a man called Jesus who did some important stuff at that time & the messages of love thy neighbour, thou shalt not kill etc are good values to lead you life by - even if you don't believe the religious stuff. I also have a friend who is Buddhist & again, there probably was a guy who became the Buddha but what he said was the important thing - again about living peacefully. I do not personally approve of any religion claiming they are correct above all others or that violence should be encouraged because of your beliefs (i.e. some Muslims). Religions should be something to bring you personal peace/happiness etc, not something to be pious about to others.

my responses are always the same, but I used to be pentecostal and went to church up to 5-7 times a week. I saw so much hate going on behind the scences because I was a "nobody". I wasn't a preacher or a preacher's kid, i was very quiet, my family didn't have money so ppl didn't have to worry about impressing or putting a front up for me. I saw things that others didn't. There were many times where my step mother would lie to ppl about me because I was quiet and didn't socialize much with her due to bullying and no one saw thru it and another time I was in an extremely bad situation and no one saw that I was changing as a person. I wondered if prayer actually worked and for me it didn't even tho I put all of my faith into god. People picked and chose which ppl were the best in church and that was wrong for me to see. I now live happily as an atheist and will bring my kids up that way, but I will make them aware of the good and dark side of christianity. I'm not offended by your question and i'm sharing my experience. I don't understand y ppl are giving the thumbs up or down to ppl who are saying that they are christians or an atheist. some ppl here didn't even say that there isn't a god they just say what they believe.

I have no religious beliefs...i don't believe in any superstition..and thats all any of them are! Until we rid the world of superstitious nonsense, then there is no hope for this planet. If you take ALL the beliefs and religious motivations of almost any religious person and then half the list to the most important ones, and then half it again and again you will ALWAYS come out with their main motivation...and that is TO ENSURE THEIR PASSAGE TO HEAVEN! Religion is a very selfish pursuit in most cases. I tell my children that i dont believe in a God, but i might be wrong. Religious people tell their children that there IS a God..though they have no evdience to back it up!
Nothing like keeping an open mind eh?

I believe in Hinduism. But only in the Shrutis from Vedas that are said to be and seem to me undisputably eternal. There is other thing in Vedas based on Shruits called Smritis which is more of rituals and preachings that are more relevant to a specfic time and based on peoples state of mind.
Concepts like karma, eternal nature of soul and behaviour of ego, caste system, marriage and many other things go under the Smritis.
Concepts like holy cow, many deities or personal gods etc and some non sense gets into Smritis. Smritis are the ones written many times by some naive people as well. Unfortunately most of the Hindus follow Smritis.
The reason I like to believe in them is mainly because if one follows them there is no reason for anyone to fight againt each other. The same soul that is in you is said to be residing in me as well and. If I am fighting with someone it is like I am hurting my own self. As simple as that. Moreover it promises eternity to us. What else can we expect from a religion?
If science can bring the same to the world I would really like to follow that too. For me, it is not about following who says what. It is more about what makes our lives better.

I don't believe in a god and i don't believe there isn't a god, but I think we can all safely say the quran/bible's false and that there probably isn't a god.
But I do believe in human ingenuity, altruism, generosity and equality. It's a crazy world without the adult version of Santa Claus to hold your hand, but maybe we could all hold hands with each other?
Just cause Santa's not real didn't mean the love wasn't.

This question is for amelia_av.....You say you don't believe in something you can't see right? So you don't believe in air, wind, oxygen, atoms, bacteria...etc etc right? cuz you can't see those things so why do you not believe in air and oxygen?
To answer this question I am one of Jehovah's witnesses, I believe in my religion, because everything we do and say is proven in the bible, NO other religion has/does/can do that. One other reason is babylon the greats teachings don't make sence, i.e the trinity, life after death, going to heaven or hell, earth will burn up.
The reason why that makes no sence is ITS NOT IN THE BIBLE, and it makes no sence if u think about it. I only believe whats in the bible, not from another mans mouth. And as i have stated before everything we teach is from the bible.

I try to follow something called the Tao, or the 'Way'.
There is a flow in the universe, and it is called tao. Tao flows slowly but is never stagnant and keeps things in the universe balanced and in order. It manifests itself through change of seasons, cycles of life and so forth.
Taoists cherish simplicity and staying true to ones nature. When you follow tao, you become one with it.

I don't believe in fundamental religions, because they distort the truth about your spirituality, and have been working in tandem with governments to control the population.
This is not to say that there is nothing to be learned from religious prose, because their is a rich spiritual knowledge, to be found in their literature, symbolically wrapped in metaphor.
I am a spiritualist (I love quantum physics), I find truth and inspiration in all of mankind's art, science, history. Moreover I find epistemologically, that the same source of wisdom all the religious text have been drawn from is still available to mankind, and this is where I draw my ideas about my spirituality from.
Any fundamentalist my find what I am saying to be rather esoteric, it is not.
It just that many people have found that old religious ideas, are now being replaced with modern ideas of spirituality.
We rely on 21st century science. Why do we continue to rely upon 10th century religious understanding, are we not evolving? Unfortunately no. Is our spiritual evolution dead? Is it that we want to just continue to deny ourselves the best that reality has to offer? Or is our spiritual evolution being intentionally repressed? YES IT IS!!!!! Thanks to Uncle Sam, who wants your mind and your perceptions in his grasp alone.

God is real, the billions of Christians and other religions that believe in God and our very existence are proof that God is real

I believe in God and Jesus, but many people nowadays are atheist, even though some may say they believe in God, if they are doing any and everything, they are lying. Plus if you say you're christian, and you agree with gay-ism you aren't christian. Read in the King James bible, Romans Ch1 versus 21-32
