These are the styles of decor I like - Southwest inspired such as Native American art, pottery, drums, cactus, zig zag lines, bold earthy colors etc; Canadian/Alaskan wildlife like moose, wolves, evergreen trees, pinecones, etc; and Asian inspired decor like bamboo plants, water fountains, windchimes, teapots, feng-shui, etc.

In my new home, should I try to incorporate parts from each or stick with one type the whole way through? I don't know how I could pick only one style and if I did, I would miss the others. What are your thoughts on this?

Pull something from each style that will blend with the other styles. For instance, the Indian pottery will work well with the bold earth colors as well as the fountain and bamboo plants mixed with other types of plants. You could take a couple of pieces of the pottery and make you own water fountain/feature...you could place a bowl or dish on a table filled with pinecones. Decorating is a personal choice..do what makes you feel good and use what you like..the key is to find a common color or element that pulls them together..Good luck and have fun

I agree with the other answers -- blend the styles that appeal to you in a personal manner. As architect Frank Lloyd Wright said "only have things in your home which are useful or which you love."
The best source for ideas on mixing styles showing REAL houses are the interior decorating books by British designer Terence Conran like "Home Style" and "The New House Book". Hundreds of pictures of wonderful spaces in houses from the modest to the luxurious all over the world. You can find them in most book stores or on-line -- often very inexpensively -- or just find some at a book store and sit and read them if you don't want to buy. It really helps to see how people have combined their personal styles with the things they love into comfortable, attractive living areas.

Avoid doing the "theme" approach with each room having just items in one design scheme and too many matching "decorative" items. It makes a home look unnatural, like a furniture store or museum. The style of a house should flow from room to room.

I think you can have two or three styles, but no too many. And you need to separate the styles into different rooms. You can't mix them together. You see, maybe one style in your living room, and another one in your bed room. If you still feel regret about the other styles, you can find some artwork from any styles you like to decorate your house. See the following website, that's one of Asian style, hope you will like it.

I am a firm believer in using different styles in different rooms. Unless one room flows into another and is easily visible from the other room - I would say go with what makes you feel good about that particular room. I have oriental colors and decor in my master suite because I find it very soothing and relaxing. However, I would never consider that for my living room which is more traditional with antiques. Changing things up makes each room take on its own character and allows you to showcase different collections and different facets of your personality.

I think they all go together and you won't have a problem. Don't feel bad you've got a nice new house to decorate, I like the same thing and only have a small space for all that.

Combine them all and call it eclectic! Don't buy anything that you don't REALLY love. When you bring something home, place it where it looks good, regardless of its genre. Who knows, you might end up with a bamboo plant next to a totem pole, if they complement each other.

You can use a bit from each style if you stay in the same color scheme.

Don't worry so much about the themes/styles as the colors.
