I am interested in buying a digital camera but I don't understand how the memory card works. Example if a memory card is 512MB what does that mean. How many photos (normal) can be put on the card?

Bonni: The 512MB number is the capacity of the memory card, bu thow many picutres it can hold depends upon the resolution (quality) of the picture you take. Very fine quality (resolution) shots take more memory. But a 512 card should still hold alot of pictures (a couple hundred at least).
Try a Canon Elph camera. They're just amazing & easy to use. I have an SD700IS & love it.

Memory card is like the hard disk in a computer. how you use it is up to u. If you use the whole 7.1 pix then you might get 125 to 175 pics, but you also have an option of using normal pics in this way you can get more than 500 pics. There are large variety of SD card available, Try buying like a 1GB one its better and you will have lots of space. If your camera can also record video's then 1 GB or 512MB is the best choice for you.

Good luck buying ur camera.

For a camera SD cards would be the best. The sizes are the following

64MB
128MB
256MB
512MB
ETC.

For a 512MB card you should be able to hold around 250 Pictures

Hi

It depends on the resolution of your camera.

I use an 8 megapixel camera and shooting Large size, fine (low compression) JPEGs I can get about 240 images on a 1 Gig card.
