I know how you feel. I'm 14 and i'm 5ft5 and 116llbs and I'm still trying to lose weight. If my mum found out she would freek! She would think i was the perfect weight even if i was obese...well thats mums for you. In my opinion the best way is to eat small portions at meals wherever possible and don't eat junk food. I don't starve myself but i just gave up chocolate and sweets and it is slowly coming off! Good luck but remember be healthy xxx

The best way to start is to make sure that you have 3 meals a day including breakfast which is the most important. Try to eat less fried food or junk food as even the smallest amounts can be high fat which is empty calories and won't satisfy you. Do you have school lunches? If you do then just have a small amount to eat when you come home from school then there is less for your body to work off at night. If you are hungry between meals eat fruit instead of biscuits or crisps. A glass of water or 2 before a meal is also a good idea as it will make you feel less hungry before eating a lot. If your mum is not happy about you going to a gym then the best exercise you can do is a long walk or on the rainy days put some music on and dance yourself silly which could be more fun with friends too. Just be careful not to starve yourself as this won't help.

Your BMI is 22 which is in the healthy range. You say your getting heavier, it maybe because your not eating enough? I think a girl of your age should have 1800 cals a day.
As to 'the time of the month' question yes this is normal females retain water at this time so don't worry.
TBH at 12 you should not worry about you weight, as your mum said it's just puppy fat and will go.
Make sure you eat a balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruit and veg and drink loads of water.

i remember when i was 12 and i was chubby as my mum called it but as i got older the wieght soon fall of firstly i would suggest you relax as getting stressed will not help what i would suggest is sitting down and writing out a plan on a weekly basis write down what you will have to eat that day perhaps cereal healthy ones then a peace of fruit for a snack a salad or something light for lunch a some crackers for a snack and then a main meal a maybe a couple of biscuits in the evening always drink lots of water is good for you and you can do exercising at home ie jogging on the spot or even doing it up and down the stairs try to only weigh yourself once a month so it doesnt get you down and try to remain postive but your mum could be right you might lose when you get older just like i did so please don't worry to much

Nothing is going to happen overnight. To lose weight you need to be sure what is your correct weight for your height, age etc not just some random weight that you fancy being at the moment. I am assuming mainly from your age that you dont eat the correct things to prevent weight going on.........a lot of people of your age will only eat pizza, crisps, snacks, chocs , burgers & the list goes on & on. STOP right now if you are serious about losing a bit of weight.... eat correctly.... low fat items, vegetables, lean meat etc & get off the sofa 24/7 & away from the TV & games cosole & get outside in the fresh air.....walk, yes actually walk! Tell mum you dont need a lift to school or to your mates house & walk instead. Try &
put some effort into it & instead of sauntering around walk at a
brisk pace & if your friends dont want to join it or they take the mick ignore them & do what you know is best for you. Get a bike & ride that round, take the dog out, just move about... do things and GET OFF OF HERE! Sitting at the pc for hours wont help, I know cos I've put on few pounds myself

You arn't overweight, if you really feel you want to do something the best option is to do more activity, walking, swimming, cycling, dancing like a mad person all around your bedroom to your favourite music, Eyetoy on the PS2, anything that makes you out of breath, it will work, you will tone up. Stretch all your muscles you have used afterwards and hold the stretch for a count of 10.

See if you can add walking or cycling to your everyday life, like getting to school & back, instead of a lift or bus, it'l save the environment, save money and add exersise into your day without you really noticing it after the first week.

Avoid sugary & fat filled snacks, eat lots of fruit & vegetables, and drink lots of water every day to flush out what your body doesn't need or use quicker.

First of all, Your not that heavy. My cousin is 18, and at 12 she weighed 120 and shes not fat(or overwight) who ever told you your over weight is gay. And if your doing this for a school, like trying out for a sport, ITS AGAINST THE LAW FOR THEM TO NOT TAKE YOU BECAUSE YOUR NOT TO THEIR STANDARDS.and yes, you will get taller!!!

second of all, yes its normal for THAT time of the month.

third if you lose that much that quick, you have a chance of becoming anarexic.

lastly, If you want to lose weight (even though you dont need to) see if your school has a weight room. My high school did. If they do talk to a teacher their and tell her what you need to lose. Then the teacher will most likely tell you what to do. I would try the treadmill. Its the quickest way to burn calories. BUT dont eat before you go to work out, But do drink a lot of water. NO POWERADE OR GATERADE water. (flavored water is ok but plain water is better) Also eat alot of starchy foods like spagetti especially you do football. Starchy foods give you energy. Now if you want a food diet, Try eating Fruits and Veggitables. No fruit drinks because they do have added ingredients. V8 is the perfect veggitable drink.

What kinds of foods are you eating now?
You DON'T need to eat less, just eat SMARTER.
Whole foods...lean proteins like chicken breast, fish, lean beef,
lots of veggies (not drowned in butter or sauce!), fruit, nuts (raw and unsalted is better)...whole grains (whole wheat pasta/bread, etc.) - go easy on the grains, though, because they are high in calories and some people's bodies don't react well to them.

You don't need to go to the gym, you can walk or run outside. Or start playing a sport. EDIT: sorry, I just read that you are taking gymnastics. Excellent! Which makes it even MORE important to feed your body high-quality fuel instead of junk.

Don't even think about calories right now, you are still growing and restricting your calories is not healthy. As long as you stick to the kinds of foods I listed above, and avoid highly processed, sugary stuff (ice cream, sodas, cakes, cookies, doughnuts, chocolate bars), your body will respond. Have a treat occasionally, once or twice a week, but stick to fruit if you need to satisfy a fruit craving.

Okay. You need to avoid :

biscuits, butter, anything fried, crisps and savouries and all sweets.

Not too many potatoes and not too much bread.

Check the calories on any prepared meals...should be no more than 450 per serving. No take aways!

Drink plenty of water.

Walk at a brisk pace whenever you can. If you can go swimming, that is also very good for you.

Keep this up and you'll lose it at a good healthy pace.

Best wishes

Hi there. Well I think the first change you should make is drinking lots of water. Drink a big glass of water before every meal and you will eat less as you will feel fuller. Also during the day if you feel you are hungry, drink a glass of water because often we mistake hunger for thirst. In the beginning it will take alot of getting used to drinking this water, but by doing it often your body will start getting used to eating smaller portions of food at meal times and not snacking all the time.

If, like me, you do not like water then you can mix it with juice (cordial) but make sure it is a sugar free juice, or check out some of the juices from weigh less.

Always try have some fruit or carrot sticks handy. If you feel a snack attack coming on then have an apple or some carrot sticks instead of chips or bread.

Don't put butter/marg on your bread, cut out cheese, cream, mayonnaise, etc. These all have alot of fat. Instead by a low fat cream cheese or cheese spread to have on your sandwiches and bread.

Try and stay away from chocolates and cakes etc, but if you do have a sweet tooth eat things like jelly babies and all jelly based sweets as they contain sugar and not fat.

STAY AWAY from fizzy drinks like cokes and stuff - these are really bad for you! If you must have a fizzy drink make sure it is a diet one. You have NO IDEA how much sugar they put into coke and those other drinks. It is really bad for you!

You will soon get used to these new eating habits so you will no longer feel like you are on a diet - but more that you have a new way of life and new way of eating. You will start to have more energy and feel more confident!

But don't deprive yourself of EVERYTHING! If you have been very good for a few days watching what you eat then reward yourself with a slice of cake or something you like - but make sure it's only ONE slice!!! If you don't allow yourself these nice treats once in a while you will find that suddenly you will just break down and eat a whole cake at once coz your body is just dying for it!

Remember - healthy eating is a way of life and once you get your body used to it it will be so easy to stay that way. Your body is yours forever and you need to treat it with love, care and respect. So feed it things that it needs, vegetables, fresh fruits, vitamins, iron, protein....................not fats and oils!

Best of luck with it! xxx
