You take a nice sharp knife, and just cut the corn just at the cob rind.

to tell you the truth, whenever i ate corn on the cob, what i did was i spread butter on it while it was still hot (this gives it a wonderful flavour!!) then simply tore off huge mouthfuls with my teeth! I love eating it that way, its real fun hehe...
If you want to do it politely (or to keep it clean cos you might want to preserve it) maybe it can be done with a knife, but personally I've never tried it, and I have a feeling that if I did, all the corn would go flying onto other people's faces.

Take a knife and run it down the cob= when I do it the little kernels seem to fly off in every direction though!

First you hold the cob vertically so tht its resting on a stable surface ie: a chopping board, then you take a sharp knife and cut the kernels off!
easy!

They slice it off.
You can do the same thing at home with a knife.
Factories probably have specialized cutting equipment that does a better job of it.

They get old sick people who have nothing better to do to bite it off and then they spit it into the can. Thats how creamed corn is made anyway. The nasty sauce is the old peoples spit and snot.
