Believe it or not, an English Bulldog is one of the best dogs for small children. They have a very calm, relaxed demeaner. There skin is thick, and they have high tolerance for pain. So when your little brother hits him or grabs a hand full of skin and pulls, Bully wont even flinch.

First you should ask yourself if you are really prepared to take care of a dog. They are very social, & they don't want to be stuck on the end of a chain or out in a fence their whole lives. If you guys are the kind of family that wants a dog because you want a great, loving companion, then dogs are wonderful pets.
You also need to consider the price of a puppy. Their first shots can be kind of costly; vet bills are steep.
As for a 4-year old, you definitely want a dog that's not too small, because kids can accidently harm them. I honestly think that adopting a pound puppy would be great, but if you want a specific breed, then Boxers are good with kids. Boston Terriers are, too. We have a border Collie who is great with our kids, but they are working dogs & not for everyone.
What kind of space do you have? A nice yard? Or will it be inside most of the time?

Check out pet finder. Put in your zip code and select dog. It bring up all the dogs in your area. Of course since you are only 14 one of your grandparents would have to go with you to pick out the dog and sign for it. Any breed can be could with children if properly trained. Talk to the people at the shelter they can tell you which dogs they have and which ones would be good. for smaller children. The best part of all this is that you will be saving a life !

I think either a Beagle, Lab, Miniature Dachshund, Yorkshire Terrier, Shih Tzu, Cavalier C.K. Spaniel, Shetland Sheepdog, Miniature Schnauzer, Pembroke Welsh Corgi, or Shiba Inu. Also the Golden Retriever.

he's 4.. i wouldnt get a dog right now.. cause you will be the one takeing care of it.. and tyou know the situation wiht that.. so basically it will be liek taking care of 3 kids... dogs are like kids and puppies need ALOT ofr trainging.. you will need to take the dog to oedience classes and to the vet's quite often. (for shots, ect) but a good breeed that i reccomend.. are golden retrivers and labs, they are very mellow and well tempered.. try to buy a lab or golden retiriver mix.. dogs cost alot of money! a purbed dog can cost anywhere from 400 to 1500 dollars.. plus toys, beds, housing, food, water bowls, food bowls, leashes collars, plus money for classes for the dog.. its alot of work koi.. and i do not think you will have the time to give the attention to the dog.... and it wil be neglected.. i wouldnt get one if i were you.. you already have a rabbit.. which the dog could also possibly attack and kill... so you would have to have them seperated... well i wouldnt get one if i were you!!!!!

I got a German Shepard for my son, and the dog is wonderful with all kids. She's also very protective, and a great watch dog. She even protected the baby kitten from our cat when the kitten first came to live with us. She has never bitten anybody, and she has tolerated a lot af ear and tail pulling from toddlers! I think they are the best family dogs!!!

Check into getting a Welsh Corgi...We have two of them and they are the greatest family dogs and they dont get very big (mine are between 25 and 30 pounds). They are very friendly and playful not to mention very smart so easy to train. I think it took me about two weeks to potty train them. Look around for a local breeder in your area and at least pay them a visit, I guarantee you will fall in love, their is nothing cuter than a Corgi pup.

Then how come it isn't your dog if you are the one whos going to be taking care of him? If he isn't old enough to care for it, it really shouldnt be his, but yours. I suggest a puppy for you and a stuffed animal for your brother. The breed you choose should depend on how much exercise and attention the puppy will need and how much they bark, how aggessive they are and how much space you have in your house.

Cockerspaniels when there puppy's grow to love children! They love to be played with. Maltese are a bit expensive but they are cute and friendly around children and beleive it or not they are really Protective!!! Tiny but they can be mean towards strangers.
