Do as I say not as I do! Liberals believe the message is what is important, not how they respond to the message. Global warming is a threat, therefore WE must change our ways! This is the message they preach, but THEY continue in their extravagent way of living using more energy than the common man. The commoner is to make sacrifices and do without, not them, because they preach the message therefore they do not have to follow it. Only the rest. Give me a friggin' break! Shut your mouth and walk the talk or go fly in your fuel gobbling jet and drive in your govermental black SUV and live your abusive resource draining life in your elitists planet draining homeS.

Your question is a good one, & setting aside the technical arguments for & against Global warming and just focusing on these non-scientist purveyors of Global warming, your legitimate gripe of these hypocrites, is the result of their Collectivist mindset overlayed by a strata of cultural elitism. One of the primary tenants of classical liberalism, is their faith in a select group of individuals that for lack of a better word we can call 'Philosopher Kings' These select individuals see themselves as public servants What Liberalism seeks to do is attract these well meaning types into government or other high profile positions, in service for the greater public good. If you are thinking that this is a form of class system, yes it is! Liberalism feels that these elites are better positioned to chart the course of society than are you and I are. That they are better able to see the big picture, and thus can guide society through the challenges that it faces. Because of their self-expressed commitment, they feel they are indemnified from following the advice they hand-out. When they are forced to deal with their hypocrisies as Gore has been lately, they concoct schemes like energy offsets *[BTW Gore has a ownership stake in the company that provides this service]* that are nothing but window dressing for the general public; so as to allow for their continued access to a lifestyle they seek to prevent you from having. In short the energy required to fufill your dreams & lifestyle, are not as important as theirs. Tragically this mindset does not work. Human nature being what it is, a sense of entitlement begins to set in and corrupt and debase what are at first noble intentions. The phrase "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions" Speaks to this fundamental flaw of Liberalism.

Well stated, mbs1960. I agree completely that the liberals have an elitist mentality...I like that....philosopher kings. It's funny that whenever I state to my girlfriend that such and such action is liberal, she asks what it has to do with politics. My answer: Conservatism and liberalism go beyond politics and are reflections of one's personality. All the liberal people I know seem to lack wisdom and are free spirits (i.e. unreliable). All of my friends that are walking a good path are conservatives. I wonder what this empirical evidence means?

only a couple of points...

First this is not a question.
Second... I can't believe that there are that many "liberals" out there "preaching" about a lifestyle that they aren't living themselves... You lable a socio-economic class as liberal then place them into the same catagory as environmentalists so that you can be anti environmentalist when the real issue is your tired of being broke trying to keep up with the jones. If the environmentalist movement is such a sticking point with you then don't try to live the life. Being Green is about more than just the environment. A little research will tell you that.

Everyone must care for the environment, for other people, etc. I agree that those who preach it must also practise it. But it's better to at least believe in something correct, even if you make mistakes. Sometimes I feel guilty for spending money for fun when I could be giving to charity, but at least I believe charity is good and give when I can, you know what I mean? Plus, the societies we live in sometimes don't let us practise our beliefs: for example, suppose I was a communist and I believed all enterprises should belong to the state (I am not, but suppose I were). This is impossible, because I live in a capitalist state, so I do own my own enterprise liek it or not.

Ok here is the deal:

If I´m wrong about global warming, to pay the cost of the measures I sell my house.

If you´re wrong, that it is more serious and involves about 185 million people dying (source: Chrisitan Aid) so like the Fuhrer, you end in front of a tribunal for crime against mankind and is executed... don´t worry that´s only if global warming takes place... you still have a less than 10% chance it´s not

If you want to recycle, drive a prius, eat organic, and whatever else you people do feel free. I could care less since I mind my own business. I resent the constant preaching from the environmental wacko side about how I should live. I do not want to see pollution, garbage, etc. but I am tired of hearing about this nonsense. It has become the religion of the liberal and anyone who does not accept its tenents is deemed a heretic.

Because this is all about political power. And those who have political power like to fly around in private jets and use SUVs. So shut up and do what they say, because you are one of the little people.

In general, conservatives would like to donate to causes that they believe in and don't care if liberals donate or not.Whereas Liberals want to choose the cause and try to pass laws requiring everyone to contribute.
