I am not going to pass judgement so please be careful out there but to answer your question PRESS FIRMLY ON THE PEDAL AND DO NOT PUMP UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. Please go have your brakes checked out ASAP. ABS is supposed to avoid the heart attack from an accident and the fact that you ALMOST slid means your heart stopped briefly because the car stopped on a dime.
I am thankful that neither you nor the trucker were hurt.
On another note-what were the road conditions-driver bears the responsibility for sliding in front of another for insurance claims purposes-simply put it would mean that you didnt have control of your vehicle because you were either a)driving to fast for the weather conditions or b)incapable of controlling your vehicle-neither of these scenarios will decrease your rates. This is just food for thought-insurance company standards are harsh. The theory is that you should wait for the conditions to change or drive slow enough to maintain control (yes even 5 mph) and stay in the low lane so that you do not impede the flow of traffic
hope this helps

Anti lock breaks are meant to have a maximum pedal pressure applied, the anti-lock mechanism will keep the breaks from locking up and skidding.
The only reason they would not do this is if the breaking system needs repair.

Just jam them on. They were built so that they grab with a pumping action, like we are supposed to do but wouldn't remember in a crisis.
You probably had the near-miss because the truck was already too close, so nothing would have helped.

Put the brake pedal down hard, the anti lock action will work automatic if your system is working properly

if you almost slid out in front of the truck, it's not the brakes fault.
did truck pull out in front of you/ were you going to fast/
sounds like it was human error
