'sativa' 'sativum' and 'officinalis' when used as specific epithet ,it means that particular plant was or is cultivated.

1) Oryza sativa -- cultivated rice

2) Allium sativum -- cultivated garlic.

3)Avena sativa --- cultivated Oats

4) Asparagus officinalis -- cultivated garden asparagus.

4) Calendula officinalis -- Garden or cultivated marigold.

Likewise specific epithet 'vulgare' or ' vulgaris' also means common or a cultivated plant.

Originally vulgare means common people , now it has a different connotation.
