Dude, you've got a classic, I always wanted a Zaskar, keep it, keep it, keep it! GT still sell the Zaskar and only minor details have changed because they got it right in the first place. I'd upgrade the parts if I were you, forks in particular have come a long way in ten years, but don't get sucked in by hype. Only use stuff that works. You can find good reviews by people who have actually bought the parts they are reviewing at- http://www.mtbr.com/
I regularly ride my 13 year old KHS and race on my 10 year old Turner (I upgrade parts only as and when I need to.), they both still kick *** along side my much more contemporary downhill rig and hard tail. So give the old Zaskar a chance..
Seriously, you have a great all round bike as it is, a bit of nip-and-tuck here and there will do no harm, but just get out there and have fun! I don't think it'll disappoint you.

my bike is 10 years old and i was in the same situation as you. I would keep it and upgrade it but not disc brakes i would go for quality avid v brakes and spend the money on good gears and wheels etc. It's also gonna be a classic soon.

I used to cycle before i got problems with my knees. If it has a cro molly or aluminium frame it'll be light enough and strong enough for most use. You might want to replace the oil in your front fork because it degrades over time or upgrade totally. As for disc brakes, unless you are going to ride through deep mud/water then v-brakes are perfectly adequate.

Keep the bike just the way it is, it is absolutely acceptable for just about anyone except those into fashion statements or those that might enjoy jumping off cliffs.

you must be loaded. I dont know why anyone would by a bike for that much, is it made of platinum.

If I were you I would keep this bike and just update the parts coz its far too expensive to dipose off. The most expensive bike I bought was 85pounds but the pedal did break off, gona fix it soon

Probably easier and cheaper to buy a new one!
