Do you really think that they have helped you? I take Paxil and I think it's doing me harm. I'm not any less depressed, I just feel like a just want to sit at home and feel more like a zombie. Could these pills be making things worse? I'd really like to get off of them and see if what happens. Trouble is, when I tell my doctor about taking me off, he refuses. Should I just do it on my own?

Neither one helped me. You can't just quit some medications.. you have to be weaned off of them. Different people have different reactions to Paxil or Zoloft. I knew one lady that never got out of bed while she was on Paxil. Her family was more worried about her while she was on the medication than when she wasn't. If your doctor refuses to take you off antidepressants, ask him to prescribe something else. If he refuses, consider getting a second opinion. Also, you should be going to some sort of counseling, and that helped me more than anything. But, again, I had to find the right doctor and counselor. The first doctor routinely did ECT on his patients, and before he could do something like that to me, I found a different doctor and within a few short weeks, was doing much better. Each doctor has his or her own methods and medications. How long have you been on Paxil or Zoloft, and are you going to counseling as well? It doesn't sound like you've just started taking them. Talk with your doctor and instead of just asking him to take you off of them, tell him why you want off of them and ask why he is refusing. If he can't give you a decent answer, get another opinion.

How long have you been on these meds? It usually takes 6-8 weeks to feel the full effects. I was prescribed Zoloft a few years back. I was really depressed about an huge life change that was taking place. I felt that the Zoloft did not help. It made me feel like a zombie too. It made me really tired and I felt like I didn't care much about anything. I stopped taking the meds and turned my life around. There are certain conditions when these meds are needed, manic depression, Bipolar, Borderline Personality Disorder, if you have or suspect you have one of these continue to talk to your doctor. There are many different type/classes of antidepressants out there each working in its own different way. With your insight and input and his prescription pad, I'm sure you'll work this out.

You're in charge of making the decisions regarding what works for you and what doesn't. Its important that you have a doctor that listens to you and takes your opinion into consideration. If you're not comfortable w/ this guy, then look for another doctor. Check out ratemds.com & see if any in your area have good ratings.

If you do go off the Paxil, you have to do it slowly. Paxil has a reputation for the worst withdrawal symptoms (as well as Effexor). So expect it to take several weeks to wean yourself off of it.

As far as Zoloft is concerned, I think its okay. I'm on 150 mg and I feel its helped somewhat. Anti-depressants work differently for everyone. Wellbutrin has been a godsend for me. I improved big time when I started taking Wellbutrin.

I tried Zoloft 4 about 5 or 6 weeks and it had NO effect on me.

I tried Paxil and it helped my symptoms about 50 percent(not enough)

I have taken both. Depending on how long you have been on them for them to be effective. It can take 2 to 3 weeks for results to show. But the key, is get up and about and don't worry about them hurting you. Keep yourself busy, work in the yard, go for walks, or find a hobby. But the worst thing to do is sit around and feel like a zombie. You may feel that way, but actually you aren't. You may want to ask your doctor about the dosage amounts. They had to reduce my dosage due to my body weight.

If your doctor refuses, just find a doctor who agrees. If you don't want to go to that trouble, just take yourself off and stop going to your doctor. I did that. I was taking Remeron and Prozac. I didn't experience what you are experiencing, I was like depression on speed. My doc just kept upping my dosage, so I stopped taking them oneday and never saw the idiot again. You don't have to do everything your doctor tells you to do. That was a few years ago. I lived through it and I'm not taking any medication or depressed anymore.

They need to change your medicine. Go to your Doctor and ask for something that will not leave you feeling like a Zombie. I am on Celexa and it just leaves me feeling mellow. I do not worry about things I have no control over anymore.Paxil is obviously not the one for you, or the dosage needs to be lowered.

prozack- yes, I'm a zombie robot.

I have no idea if they make it work. I only know if I go off of It I cry for no reason.

You could try getting a different doctor to take you off of it, or telling him about your side effect and recommending a different drug.
