There are many types of approaches towards god realisation. What most people follow is the path of devotion. In devotion the god is the centre point. You love him,you pray to him and surrender to him. This is in a way giving yourself in the hands of god. Here there is a problem, cunning people started introducing rules and morality in the name of relegion. They will reason out things which has nothing to do with relegion. now everything can be classified as good and bad. In fact reason has no place in devotion. The only real crieteria here is whether your love and devotion towards god is growing. It does not matter which god is real. All the gods are real or no god is real. But some god should be there, or else where will you channelise your love and devotion? In old times a great importance is given to pativritya. To a woman her husband is her god. No other spiritual practice is required. There are so many stories of miracles done by women practicing pativritya. I do not disbelieve them but people today may laugh at it as a trick to control women.
There is another apprach to relegion. That is alertness and mindfulness. There is no place for god in this. Gautham Budda preached relegion all his life but there is no god in his relegion. If there were no god what he was teaching? He was not teaching how to while away your time. He was teaching a scientific method of self realisation through alertness. The masters following budda soon realised that combatting is the best way to sharpen your alertness. These martial arts devoloped and practiced in monastries have nothing to do with winnning and aggression. It is a kind of Sadhana. Today a vital aspect is lost from everything. People today do not think yoga as a spiritual practice. They think it is some excercise for better health. The word yoga itself means union. But nowadays in the newspaper it comes headings like yoga for your hips, Yoga for your stomach and yoga for your bladder.

The Shaolin monks were taught Gung Fu. To overcome the "fear" of fighting. Many "start" fights because they falsely assume this is what they must do to "protect" themselves.
The Shaolin, by having the confidence to protect themslelves. Were able to avoid the conflict altogether.
As Sun Tzu stated in The Art of War. The Ultimate Warrior defeats his opponent without delivering a blow. He uses his mind.
The metaphysical aspect to the Martial Arts. Is that when someone gets mad at us. They send energy at us. Which creates a "sympathetic" reaction. And we send energy back. That is why when you see a person explode on someone, they explode right back!
The Warrior doesn't "react". The Warrior "acts". When one reacts, they give Power away. But the Warrior acts, by staying calm. And therefore holds his Power in. And has the Strength to defeat his opponent if need be.

I congratulate Shienaran and Kobayashi for his or her know-how and good solutions to this question. Shao Lin (New wooded area) replaced into the call of a Buddhist temple in Loyang province the place Bhodidharma a monk from India got here to instruct interior the 5th Century. He taught strikes based upon those of animals to the Buddhist clergymen on the temple, and that developed into the classic 5 Shaolin Animal varieties (Tiger, Leopard, Crane, Dragon and Snake) of martial arts. As you may desire to confirm, Shaolin refers to Buddhist martial arts varieties, as damaging to Taoist varieties lined under Tai Chi Chuan. for that reason, Shaolin is one in each and every of quite a few great divisions of chinese language martial arts. Kung Fu is fairly Kung Li Fu, actually "artwork Strongly grasp", even nevertheless it fairly is basically stated the comparable as though the Li replaced into absent. it could basically recommend "great success" in any field the place skill is mandatory, as our eastern acquaintances stated. Wu Shu is the literal chinese language term for Martial Arts. Shaolin Wu Shu covers many categories, so which you will locate some for absolutely everyone. There are working example the 5 Orthodox Shaolin Animal varieties, the 5 classic Shaolin kinfolk varieties and such somewhat some unorthodox and non-classic greater moderen varieties as Wing Chun, Mantis, Monkey, etc. Tai Chi Chuan additionally has some good varieties, e.g. Pa Kua, Hsing-I, the 5 factors type, etc., so why no longer take a number of the two, if that doesn't confuse you? I did basically that.

Spirituality is in the focus on the moment.
In Zen we are taught to become aware and in becoming aware we achieve enlightenment.
By focusing on the moment we can become aware. In martial arts we learn to focus on our movements so that they are done perfectly.
If you focus on anything you can achieve these things.
Generally people miss understanding their breathing and fail to achieve focus. In martial arts and meditation we are taught to learn how to breath and in this way focus on the moment.
Often people focus on the activity in their minds too much and do not focus on their breathing and everything else that is going on, so they never become aware.
So yes, kung fu is both spiritual and a hand wash depending on the individual and the teacher. You cannot find your inner energy, you can only learn to use it through focus.
Finding what some call chi is like finding your keys in your hand.

Originally, it was created to be a vehicle for the teachings, but I've never met anyone who uses it that way. I feel it can be very spiritual.
