My parents are both in their 70's. Both are veterans, yet they get stonewalled at every turn by the Veterans administration. My parents are not wealthy. The V.A. acts like they should hurry up and die. Congress and the president refuse to fully fund the V.A. Both patries are the same. They want people to serve their country, but don't want to justly compensate them for their service. Any real americans would rise up and demand that our veterans are very well taken care of. Per capita there are more veterans and their families living in poverty than any ethnic group. This is not right as without our veterans sacrifice there would be no USA.

I totally agree. I think our veterans and senior citizens are getting the SHAFT!! everytime you turn around, the government is cutting back on their beneifts and programs and we keep sending more money to foreign countries for aid...which most of the people don't see anyway cause it goes in the corrupt leaders pocket and we're spending our tax dollars
supporting the illegals. They have better benefits and get more help then the Veterans, seniors and the American people in general.
Not enough people are complaining because it hasn't affected them yet. What good does it do to complain? Our government doesn't listen.
They don't care.

Just because you are a veteran, it does not automatically entitle you to all the VA benefits. If they have a disability that is tied to their time in service then they will receive some VA benefits. If your parents both were retired veterans than that would be an entirely different issue. The VA has a budget just as any other organization. They are also my biggest example of why national health care would be an extremely expensive train wreck.

I am a Veteran, and in the V. A. system. I just do not see the problem you are complaining about. There are two levels of care in the V .A.: Service connected and non-service connected. In the service connected if you have been awarded a Purple Heart all care is, where it is service connected or not is provide gratis. All service connected care is gratis. If you go to the V. A. for non-service connected care, as I do, then the charge is means tested, that is you are asked to pay a co pay that is set according to your income for both care and drugs.

What most service personnel fail to realize until it is too late is that the government treats you like a hunk of meat. As long as you are capable of producing, they will keep you around, as soon as you become incapable of producing for them, they throw you away. It is called being expendable. The only thing that can stop it is for the military personnel themselves to speak up to the government. Most of the private citizens in this country are having to look out for themselves and battle the corporations and special interest groups.
Before signing your name on that roll sheet at the bus stop, think not only about the boot camp you are getting ready to enter, but also about the future after the military.

Unless you are a veteran of foreign wars &/or retired from the military, I would not expect any benefits from the government or VA for that matter.

Recruiters can promise you the moon and the stars and get away with it. Heck, they can even get away with telling a 14-year-old that he'll go to jail if he doesn't come to the recruiter office!
Unless its in the "contract", they aren't obligated to give you anything.
