Let's see, try with rather usual questions not the old ones what's up? or how are studies going on? and just be frank. Have a prudent inner self. Don't jump to, "I saw you the other day would you be my boyfriend?" or any such things. Start with being just friends, maybe only on net in the beginning. See whether he has another one or not before setting yourself on in your dream world, in any case there's no harm in trying out. If you keep on thinking about the future (not that it's not important) you might never live the present.

Just be confident in yourself and say hi. Then talk about random things, like hobbies, your schools etc and try to make some jokes or something. That way, he'll want to get to know you better.

if you haven't talked to him before, how can you really like him? it's called infatuation, sweetie. you HAVE to talk to him! strike up a conversation! anything! why are you hesitating? nothing will be too sudden-- it's only talking. nothing's going to start if you can't even talk to him.
