Whether it's harmful or not to stop cold turkey, depends on what you're giving up. It's no problem to stop alcohol that way, although you may go through several days of discomfort as your system adjusts.

don't know how much beer you drink or where you live but it can be very harmful to stop cold turkey. There should be an alcohol detoxification center that you can contact and arrange to enter for (usually) a five day program to help you through the stage of stopping. They will be listed in the phone book. Alcoholics Anonymous listed in phone directory can also help and should know where detox centers are located. Call someone and ask for help. I know it is very scary and depressing.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your job and health insurance. I've been there before. How long have you been drinking beer and how much beer are you used to drinking in a 24 hour period? These questions need to be answered along with several others before we can give you a completely informed answer. I'm a former RN and have done a lot of what we call "assessments" with this type of question....including for myself! OH, active drinking is not why I got out of nursing-just for the record.

I don't know of a natural way to wean off beer. I do know that if you are an alcoholic and you quit cold turkey you can have Des Tremens AKA DT's and yes it can be dangerous even fatal. I would highly recommend going to AA it's free and someone there maybe able to hook you up with a DR that can help you. AA members will help where needed if able. Good Luck!! MY thoughts will be with you.

not so good an idea...The heavier your drinking was..the more dangerous that would be.

it's not that i doubt your resolve..i am sure you want to moderate, more than wean yourself, just by the words you chose.

you are going to have to start burning some bridges...ALCOHOLISM is another league apart from being an alcoholic...

it isnt clear to me here whether you have realized that [yet] or not.

in any case, i wish you strength, courage, tenacity, determination, motivation, acceptance and understanding..if you are indeed serious, you will need generous quantity's of all of these, and more, as well.

Good luck
