prefer the plier shaped ones. guillotines ones are less safe since they can accidentally cut the blood vessel inside specially if the dog makes a sudden movement while you are cutting his nails

Guillotine type don't work as well on larger dogs and I prefer the ones that look more like scissors regardless - they seem to do a neater job.

i use both the guillotine and the open ones depending on the age of the dog. and if the nail has grown around and you can not get the guillontine around the nail

The pliers shape. I have little dogs and I have found it easier to use a pliers shaped nail clipper on them.

I like the normal ones. To me, they just seem safer.
