I had hypothyroid and it went unnoticed by the doc for almost a year.. ..
So before this thyroid problem, I was very very thin, I would eat like a cow and wouldn't gain a pound and then I got this problem and in about a year I put on 50 pounds.. got horrible stretch marks and cellulites all over my legs..I used to love wearing skirts and bikinis.. Now all I want to do is hide
All this time I would diet so hard but instead I would only gain gain gain.. and it depressed me so much..
Anyways.. I'm taking medication for my thyroid and I have been for like a month now and still no difference in my weight.. and no professional dieting place will help me because WITH THAT 50 pounds GAINED I'm now only at "normal" weight for my height..
But I'm so depressed and I don't fit into anything I used to wear.. in fact I hate myself now..
I was wondering if anyone can tell me about a diet or exercise method that will help me take all this weight off.. The weight I’ve gained is 70% in my legs.. I'm desperate!

First of all my sympathies, but take heart. You are not alone. There are many others who are in a similar boat.
Your thyroid medication will bring you into normal thyroid range and will stop you from gaining weight further. But it will not help you lose weight already gained. But increasing the medication to increase the metabolic rate is dangerous if not done under medical supervision. If done under medical supervision, that will remove your fat, burn the fat literally by increasing your metabolic rate.
If you go to a gym and do muscle building exercises, that will help you lose weight. In fact some of the fat will get converted to muscle.
There are other things that you can do. Increase the fiber content. Drink lots of water. Eat lot of vegetables. Or go for Atkins / Southbeach Diet, or similar low-carb diets, for losing weight.
Write if you need more advice. Good luck.

I'm so sorry you have went through this problem and have gained weight. Try not to put yourself down. You cannot control the fact that you got an illness that caused weight gain.
Put emphasis on eating the following foods: Whole grains, seeds, nuts, yogurt, chicken, Turkey, organic beef, tofu, beans, eggs, natural cheese, cottage cheese, vegetables and fruits should form the base of your diet. Protein should be the building block of nutrition. Consuming fruits and vegetables in their most natural form provides the most minerals and vitamins. Green vegetables provide incredible minerals that our body needs to help absorb vitamins as well as necessary fiber. Fresh fruit provides minerals, fiber and natural waters that are absorbed on a cellular level.
you might want to try weight watchers program. It's one of the most sensible diet plans available. You can go to a meeting in person or else use their service online. I think you would benefit the most from going in person for emotional support.

Your thyroid medication may need to be adjusted.
My daughter has this diease, and has to have her medication adjusted real frequently.
She sometimes will gain weight but once the medicine is regulated her weight beomes fine by itself.
