Why are people willing to pay to much for these so called designer breeds? ie labradoodle, goldendoodle, peagle. When they are basically mutts?

I agree in part with Happy. (i didnt understand everything you said) except that mutts get bad traits from both parents. So why do people always say they are heatlhier. IMO that is not necessarily true. And you still never know what the tempermant will be because you dont know the history of this "designer dog"

Makes no sense to me, I get my dogs from the pound and they've all been wonderful companions. They've all been mutts, too, and with the exception of Rex and Ruby, who had liver problems and died young, all have been remarkably healthy.
It breaks my heart to think of all the wonderful animals put to death simply because no one adopted them. When I first found out that our local pound has one of the highest kill rates in the country, I owned purebred Siberian Huskies but I can' tsee buying another purebred dog when there are so many wonderful dogs, purebred and mixed breed, available at the pound and in need of rescue.

Very good question because I do not get it myself. Instead of paying hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars they could go to their local pound or shelter and adopt a dog. It would be far less cheaper and they would save a dog rather than keep the unscrupulous breeders in business by giving them a demand for their puppies.
I have nothing against mutts I only have a problem with those that breed mutts deliberately just to make money.

We have 2 dogs, one is a purebred English Springer Spaniel(Moxi) and the other is a mix between a Cavalier King charles Spaniel and a Bichon Frise(Gus).
We paid a little over $1000 for Moxi, and about $600 for Gus. Some of the reasons we wanted Gus is because he's small, nonshedding, Hypoallergenic, and he's pretty darn cute.
A lot of people choose these dogs for the fact that they are cute or they have a good temperment. Most people don't plan on showing them and just want a good, family dog. When you go to the Humane Society there are a lot of risks involved because you don't know how the dog was raised and you just can't be sure they're 100% safe.
Also, as you can see, We paid more than $400 less for our "designer dog" than we did for our purebred.
I guess I really haven't helped you that much, but one last thing is that mixed breeds often times are healthier than purebred dogs, and their temperments can be a little more calmer or whatever...
ie. moxi is a total spaz while Gus will sit 3 feet away from a deer licking his rear end, which, might I add, is fairly disgusting.

Marketing and the stupidity of humans.
They could get the very same dog for little cost at a shelter and save a life but they would rather pay thousands of dollars for one becasue they think it is a better dog because it cost more and they did not get it from the shelter.
They think of dogs as a status thing not a companion.

Because they're ignorant to "Real" breeds and think that designer breeds are included. It's the same group that thinks if their dog is CKC (Continental Kennel Club), they've got a dog with a great pedigree.
Ever see a maltipoo or labradoodle at a dog show? No, because they don't allow mutts to enter.

Because somewhere along the line people became stupid enough to believe they were "Special" dogs instead of the Mutts they really are. Scammers with good sales pitches sold the idea to uneducated buyers. Wasn't that long ago people gave these mistakes away for free.

I've never figured it out. They could go to a shelter and get exactly the same thing, pay a lot less money, reduce the surplus pet population, and put the greedy breeders out of business.

Because the vast majority of people are gullible enough to believe what these breeders say in respect of non-shedding coats, healthier than pedigress etc. Also many people always want the 'latest' thing and at the moment the 'latest' thing are crosses. Previously it has been poodles, labradors, rottweillers etc.

I do agree, but in another way, aren't all dogs "Mutts" no matter if they are considered a certain "breed"? With so many dogs, they were mixed with different dogs to get a certain breed. Why would anyone want to spend a lot of money on any kind of dog? That's what gets me.

Kimme the Yahoo Answers troll that follows you all around and make nasty remarks is a designer dog. You know how the Killer Bees got loose and are now attacking people. It was a botched experiment. So was Kimme. Now the scientists are praying she doesn't reproduce. It truly would mean the end of the world.
