He painted because he had the need of expressing himself. He had also the need of making a life. Why did he painted in the way he did? He started painting in a figurative way; he was a teacher at Bauhaus and also he wrote books like About spiritual in art. So, perhaps he wanted to express throuhg his own spirit further the material appearance of things; abstraction

I can't say for sure which is his most famous, but it seems that almost every art history website I've looked him up on has this picture readily available.

I think Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) is his most famous work since it was used as the name for the art movement he and some others started.
