I can't speak for any other religion, but I know that pilgrimage is important in my religion (Islam.) A Muslim is required to go for pilgrimage to Saudia Arabia (also known as Hajj) A minimum of once in his lifetime. If something is financially unable to perform the pilgrimage, then it is excused. However, it is important because it helps you realize the troubles and hardships that God's messengers went through during that month (Zul-Hijjah) I have not gone yet, but would like to one day.

Pilgrimage is important. It helps the believer to concentrate on the spiritual world and be detached from material things. Pilgrimage can also strengthen bonds with other believers.

In the Baha'i Faith, yes it is. It's so important that there is a 7-yr waiting list for pilgrimage.

In Islam, yes it is. I don't know the waiting period, if there is one, but have you seen photos of people making the hajj? There are of people at the Kaaba.

In both religions, pilgrimage is encouraged but not mandatory.

As for other religions (except for Christianity), I don't know what role pilgrimage plays, or how important it is.
