My Bichon Frise is having what I think is an anal sac problem. I think one of the sacs may have burst as she has developed an open sore just beneath her anus on the right side. A few days earlier she was scooting on the rug. She have not seen her have a bm today and her adomen seems swollen. Is there a home remedy? I've tried expressing her glans but have never hit "gold". Is there a home remedy? I've shaved the area, put iodine on the sore and a salve antibiotic I had for an eye problem. I also put baby teething gel on to relieve pain. Anything else?

Oh my goodness, a few answers seemed berating and rude. If you don't know how to give a civil answer, think of someone you love before hurling out your response. The lack of respect made it hard to hear what you were insinuating. You are either young or untrained in social skills. Even a mother doesn't rush her child to a doctor every time she sees a sniffle. Forgive me, but you needed my caustic response.

To all others, I would like to express my appreciation for your taking the time to answer. Your answers were very helpful and I will take my dear, little doggie to the Vet tomorrow if she has not improved.

Thats a fistula. When the anal gland gets too blocked it forms an opening at the side of the anus because of the pressure inside. The rip stays open & won't heal. There is no cure & the anal sacs have to be removed. Sometimes they can heal, but very rare. You need to take her to the vet.

I would take her to the vets.

What if its not a anal sac problem but something more serious, you could be making matters worse with the home remedy/do-it-yourself diagnosis & treatment.

Take her to the vet! What are you doing messing around with home remedies, when you don't even know what to treat! You'll be lucky if she doesn't already have a massive infection.

Common sense should tell you that she needs to go to the vet - Why are you risking her health by trying to find the solution online?
