Yes, especially if you let the nails grow for too long in between cuttings, then the quick grows along with them. Best to have a professional cut them back and then ask them how far to cut back and how often to do it to maintain a good length.

Yes, it only happens occasionall though, like once every two years...It's not really a big deal, unless the dog is already fear-agressive about his nails. I usually try not to cut very close unless I'm doing somebody elses dog.

I have 5 dobermans, and I've never short cut any of them and all of them have black nails. You can always look at the back side and line up your clippers just above the quick.

I spend the $10.00 at the groomers every 2ish months
I will groom them/clippers but not brave enough to do their nails :) So scared they will twitch or something and I'd hurt them.

No, I just ensure that I don't cut them back too far.

It does happen once in a while, when they move, just as I go to clip.

Sure....been a PROFESSIONAL groomer for 20+ years& still occasionally do.
SO WHAT?
It's NO BIG DEAL! Stops by itself & is too far from the heart to KILL em!
Do NOT freak about it! If it's too messy for you to handle...CRATE it or boot it outside til it stops.
sheeeeeeeeeesh
