Believe me it is worth suffering a year or two in order to have perfect teeth for the rest of your life, you will not regret having them after they are over and done with.

I'm now 17 but had to get braces when i was 13 as well and although it is painful it doesn't affect your looks that much, in fact as long as you don't choose to have brightly coloured ones and just stick to the normal metallic ones most people don't actually notice, secondly a large majority of thirteen year olds have braces anyway and nobody cares, thirdly it only lasts a couple of years and the end result is definitely worth it, if i had worried about my looks for two years i would not have been able to enjoy all the compliments i now get about my staight teeth for the three years after having them taken off, so basically the whole point of my little essay was to say don't worry because they won't affect your looks x

I am getting braces at the age of 24 and I wish that I could have gotten them earlier so I wouldnt be going through this now. Just think in a year or 2 you will have a beautiful smile and you will be so glad that you got braces. If you are worried about getting the traditional metal braces, maybe you should look at getting ceramic (clear) braces. They are more expensive than the traditional braces. Here's a link to compare them. As far as changing your looks, they do give you a perfect smile in the end. I wish you the best of luck.

There are kinds of braces that are less visible and you can discuss this with your orthodontist. But all types are not right for all patients, and the cost may also be a factor.

You can also decide to treat this as a pretty normal part of growing up and some difference in looks now will make a great deal of difference in the way you look permanently and how well you can chew. Braces may look a little odd for a short time, but this is also a health issue.

Anyone who would treat you badly for having braces is an idiot you shouldn't bother with them to begin with. You can also request braces brackets in cool colors and treat them as a fashion accessory. And take a look around you at the zillions of other teens who also have braces. They aren't a big deal unless you make them into one.

Think about whats more important - having a boyfriend/girlfriend now that probably won't last, or looking stunning with beautiful teeth in a few years time that will grab you a nice long-lasting boyfriend/girlfriend. There are so many people with braces that as long as you don't let it make you shy and not yourself, then people won't notice the brace. It is nothing to feel ashamed or selfconscious about. You'll look gorgeous with it on :)

Anyone who gives you a hard time because of braces isn't worth knowing anyway. When I met my boyfriend for the first time he had braces and I didn't even notice they were there most of the time, nor did anyone else. Two years later he doesn't need them any more and now has lovely, straight teeth to show for it. The scary thing is that when he told people he'd had the brace removed, half of them didn't even realise he had them in the first place!

Don't worry about it. I'm 30 now and had braces when I was about your age. I am so glad I did as I now have perfectly straight teeth (if I do say so myself!). A year or two of wearing braces will be well worth it in the years to come and you will be pleased that you did.

It short-term pain for long term gain!Think of how lovely you'll look when you're 15.
My two kids are 16 and 18 and both had braces at about your age. Yes they moaned when they first had them but now they have lovely teeth.
By the way, my daughter also had to wear a contraption in her mouth for a year to lengthen her lower jaw line. She had to turn a key every few days to expand the device and when she ate, she chewed on two plastic blocks on the device, not on her teeth. Be thankful you're not having that!
I'm in my early 40s and I refused to have a brace when I was young. My teeth aren't overly crooked but I do wish I had put up with the inconvenience to have perfect gnashers!

Wearing braces is not actually a big issue. You may look weird for a while but when you take off your braces your teeth are going to be perfect.

My 3 eldest daughters have braces at the moment the youngest has just had them removed is over the moon with the finished result .As already said you can get clear ones, pink ones, baby blue, gold, silver so many to choose from but stay away from the red as they change colour after eating certain foods. And did you know that ppl are actually having braces fitted just for the fun of it (according to my dentist he has adults paying privately to have them fitted)Just think what a beautiful smile you`ll have after.

Ask what type you have to wear; you can get some that are less visible than others. My boss in work is 30, and had to have them put in place at 28; they are due to come off this week.
My daughter had to get them at 14, and she kicked and fought against them all the way; so did my two sons who neede them even more. I won the battle with her, and at 27, she has the most beautiful teeth; my sons refused to continue with treatment, and both now have problems in their twenties with a crowded upper jaw and an overbite, but they are both working now, and will have to pay for it themselves!
Stick with it; you will end up with beautiful straight teeth. Bear in mind it's not just cosmetic; badly positioned teeth and an out-of line-jaw can give you headaches, neckache, postural and eating problems in later life. i promise you, it's worth it. Look after yourself in other ways; always have clean, shiny hair; a nice perfume; wear stuff that suits you; and act as if you are the most beautiful woman in the world.!
