Take the KCR (it connects with the MTR) and get off at Lo Wu KCR station, then follow the signs (it is pretty easy to find on this "side" of China) and walk to China through the customs/border. You will need a valid passport and visa to get into China. Shenzhen is a bit of a crazy place with no apparent order especially if you just spent some time in the relative peace, order and cleanliness of HK. Be advised that it is also difficult to find help in English once you are on the other side, so make sure you know where you are going. If you are looking for a bus or train to get to another city in China...I wish you good luck!!! Email me if you have questions....

Go to the East Tsim Sha Tsui station or Hung Hom station and board the East Rail Line to Lo Wu. Of course pay the appropriate fare. The ride takes about an hour each way. Below is the website with all the details.
You unload at Lo Wu and walk across the border to Mainland China. If you don't have a visa, you will have to get one before crossing. You can get one there or get one prior to your crossing. There are many travel agencies in Hong Kong that can assist you in doing that or you can obtain a single or multi entry visa at your local China embassy in your country.
Keep in mind that Hong Kong is a Enterprise zone not strictly subject to Chinese laws. Crossing the border to Shenzhen, you are now in China and subject to all chinese laws. Also, the toilets the toilets you find in Shenzhen may be the squating type. Not something westerners are used to.
Good luck.

the cheapest, fastest, safest way is to take a northbound KCR East Rail (www.kcrc.com.hk) train to Lo Wu, then cross the border directly to Shenzhen
