I was raised as a Christian but turned to witchcraft when I was about 18. I am very happy as I am now, and feel more spiritually fulfilled than I ever have before. Witchcraft is not evil and it is not the work of the devil, so why is it so wrong in so many people's eyes? I mean, apart from what the Bible says, because I have found my own truth and cannot blindly follow a book which may or may not have been the subject of Chinese whispers. I do not try to convert anyone, I have repsect for people's decisions and beliefs, so why do so many people slander witches and tell us we're evil? Do you really believe this?

*Sigh* I suppose I should have expected these sorts of answers. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate what some of you have said, but you others just have no clue. I researched many religions and their histories before making my decision. Have you all done the same? I think not. What authority do you have on the matter? I asked if YOU thought it was evil based on what you know, not what the Bible says. Because, let's face it, you wouldn't see Coke advertising for Pepsi, now would you?

Kreen,

First, you're not alone here. I've been a Witch (officially, so to speak) for 30 years; in reality I've been a Witch all my life - I just didn't know it for a long time.

A lot of people don't know that a Witch is not a warty hag trying to "bespell" people into trouble. ~sigh~ Some people get no further than the *mistranslated* bit about suffering a witch to live.

For those of you like that: a Witch is a woman or man who practices a life-affirming, Earth- and nature-oriented religion, honoring Divinity in female as well as (or instead of) male aspects, and practicing Magic (which some Witches spell "magick," to distinguish it from stage illusions). There are many different traditions of Witches, encompassing many beliefs in addition to these. Some traditions are practiced by women only, and recognize only the Divine Feminine, the Goddess. Others include men and recognize a male god in addition to the Goddess. Some traditions may date back to before the Spanish Inquisition, others have been in existence for only a few years. The strength of the Witches' religion (called "the Craft" or "the Old Religion") lies in its diversity; it is a living, growing religious tradition.

As a religion, the Craft is a revival and/or reconstruction of the pre-Christian religions of Europe, especially Northern Europe (giving us Celtic or Norse traditions), sometimes elsewhere (giving us Graeco-Roman, Egyptian, or Levantine traditions). Many of us have turned for inspiration to the still-living indigenous traditions of other lands, such as Australia, Asia, India, and the Americas. Some of us , recognizing that we are American Witches, work with deities and land-spirits of local Amerindian tribes, though we do not claim to be members of any Amerindian tradition. As Margot Adler, a Witchcraft authority, has written, "The real tradition of the Craft is creativity."

BTW, MAJOR kudos to you for not saying "Wiccan" when you're not. I know that it's "trendy" to say you're Wiccan, but most people who say that are Witches, and that's a fine thing to be.

I don't have any desire to become a Wiccan; I'm happy with my practice and my spiritual path; I was a solitary for years before being covened, and would be a solitary again if I had to.

Blessings on your path. Stay strong.

There are good and bad witches. If you don't use witchcraft and do bad things then you are not evil.
I watch some animes and I don't think witches are bad persons. But I don't know if there are really witches around. If you are a witch, then fufill the 3 wishes that I'm gonna type in word later. I won't wish for evil wishes so you are going to be doing a good deed.
Winslet- that cartoon talks good about witches.

I think there is nothing wrong with being a witch. It's just that my religion does, but I don't judge people. People slander all the religions as well. Whenever people talk negatively about Islam, it only serves to deepen my belief in my faith. Don't let ignorant people get to you.

Kreen, just do what you want to do. You only have one life, and you are the one to decide what's good and not good for you.

People will always have prejudgements. That's not something that is gonna change. You can only change the way you feel about that.
I think these prejudgements are basically based on fear. Fear of the unknown, and also maybe fear of any self-questioning.
If people open their eyes towards other religions or non-religions, other ways of thinking, they will start to queston the way they have always felt themselves. They might get self-doubts.
And that takes their safety away. For most people it feels the most safest to just adept one way of (common) thinking, and never change that.
It threatens them, it makes them feel insecure.

I think it would be awesome to take the time and have the patience to do that. I personally never would (although due to certain events I think I'll look into voodoo dolls). What exactly do you do? I love learning about almost everything and that includes religions. I don't think you are evil at all. I think you chose to follow your own path and that's great. I have mine and I don't think it's right for everyone. Even my children go to church on Sundays when they are at my mom's house because I want them to be educated in as much as possible. Please email me and tell me more!! :)
