Yeah, how do you treat them? By keep talking to them even though it seems that they aren't interested in what you are saying? Let them indulge with things they like?(staring into the computer for the whole day), treating them like normal persons, forcing them to take a shower, forcing them to get out of the house?
How is the best possible way to help them?

you treat people with schizophrenia the same way you treat anyone., which is consideration, compassion, and kindness. the person should be on medication, which eases the symptoms of this illness, because there is no cure. if u are talking ab out your sister, encourage her and your family, to see the doctor on a regular basis to see how the medication is working for her. if she is staring at the t v for long periods of time, perhaps she needs a medication review. also some of the medication robs a person of the dignity, reduces motivation, and lack of interest in self . encourage her to take a shower is fine, but forcing a her out of the house, is not right. finding a mental health agency in your area, that will do follow up, and support in the community is your best choice for her. if she needs to move out, sometimes they have housing and support for people like your sister. the best thing for you to do is educate yourself, re schizophrenia, there are support groups usually available, that are for friends and families of schizophrenic loved ones. below is a link that is help full. i know u care for your sister, but it sounds like it is frustrating for you, and u have to remember, it is not your fault or hers. good luck hope this helps you.

The corner stone when treating schizphrenia is with no doubt medication with so called antipsychotic drugs, or neuroleptics. This group of medications consists of a number of chemical substances, and is divided into several subgroups. These have all shown to be very efficient in reducing the psychotic symptoms in schizophrenia.

even though a person is ill they need to be treated with respect. because of the illness it may be hard for the person to do everyday things like getting out of bed, showering, eating, taking medication, going to doctors appointments, etc..
you can help with these things, not by force but by being available to help. help remind them to take their meds, be available to give them rides to their doctors appointments so they dont miss them. encourage them to get out and do things, go to a movie, etc... or if thats too hard, bring the movie to them.
i would think forcing things too hard would just harbor resentment, but gentle prodding might help get them up and out a bit, realize that in hard times even these little steps can be difficult.
pretty much just be there. there will be good times and bad times and inbetween times. if the person has a good support system (i.e. you), as well as steady treatment (therapy & meds) then chances are things will hopefully lean more towards the good times.
