Products are promoted to seem as if "something we cannot live without" and we are unwittingly persuaded to buy them. We idolize these products until we get them and often find the product does not live up to the claims made that got us so excited. - All the while, God takes the back seat ... sometimes though, we pray to get our money back.
We lift our hearts and emotion up to an individual, when we should be lifting our hearts and emotions to God ... American Idol is a perfect example but in truth, there are many programs that tempt us to idolize someone or something.

I totally agree, now you can see why some countries do not ever even for a moment want American democracy, capitalism the American way, or the American way of life. its too materialistic, the young dump the old off at old age homes, abortion is a form of birth control, people are elevated to idol status, no focus on God. America has positive and negative aspects like anything, but idolizing people or money, that's just silly

Maintaining a perspective on these matters is essential. You can't be cowered or mislead into believing what comes out of an ad agency. They're in it to make a buck by making things as alluring as possible. No one is holding a gun to your head or telling you what to think. And I would hesitate to condemn an entire country because we have a TV show called American Idol. We also have Turner Classic Movies. Does that mean we're stuck in the past?

Friend the word American Idol is just that, it is not a statue, But a person, I am not aware of how long it has been on TV, But not one time have I bought any of their music, you may ask how do I know if I don't know who they are, I just don't buy music at all unless it is Southern Gospel music. My Grand daughter just got a $5000, college grant to go to a singing school, Because she has a very lovely voice & she is about 14 yrs. old, & guess who gave that grant to her, TIGER WOODS I told my wife I pray she uses that talent for God. My Granddaughter is a good Christian, but sometimes fame draws them away for a while, but she has her own life to live.

The majority of the people don't recognize sin. Or if they do, they are in denial and try to justify it by saying "God will understand" or some other foolishness. As a society, we have fallen so far away from God,s will, and if we don't correct the problem, there is no telling what is going to come!

If your religion says that watching a TV program is sinful, then don't watch it. Those people who do not regard it as sinful can watch it. What you consider to be a sin is not necessarily what others consider to be a sin. Sins are a matter between you and your god, other people have different relationships with their gods - if they have gods at all.
