Assault on a police officer is a serious offense, you can receive jail time. First you should consult an attorney and see what they say, see if a film of you doing this does actually exist. You can apologize to the officer by giving a written letter of apology to her supervisor, if you deliver it in person it truly shows your sincerity. You can courtesy copy to the prosecuting attorneys office and file a copy of it with the clerk of the court, that way it will be in your file for the judge to review.
Regarding your charges and future court date:
You should enroll yourself into some type alcohol classes before a judge orders you to do so. Being so drunk that you can't remember if you assaulted a police officer is a big red flag indicating you need professional help. You yourself stated you have never been in trouble or you have never hit anyone before. You should question yourself on why alcohol changes the person you truly are. If you self enroll in classes the Judge will see that you are taking responsibility for your action. If you can't find a place to take classes contact the prosecuting attorneys office explain your situation and ask for their assistance, they too will appreciate your sincerity and point you in the right direction.
Most of all don't ever get so blinding drunk that you cannot remember your own actions. What if you got blinding drunk and passed out and woke up with a gun in your hands, and a body laying lifeless by your side. You would not know if this was caused by your own actions or if someone planted a gun on you. You have to put a limit on the amount of alcohol you consume, so stupid things like this don't happen to you.
Good Luck, I hope everything works out well for you.

The CPS will decide what will happens to you and will take into consideration if you have any previous convictions. There is a likely hood of a custodial sentence; but most likely you will get a suspended sentence, pay compensation and possibly a community service order too.

And rightly so.

A solicitor will be assigned to your case at court and you may eligible for legal aid to cover the costs.

You should not be allowed to get away with this and drunkenness is no excuse; most of the calls police go to involve drunken people behaving stupidly, diverting resources away from other more in need.

Police officers are not there to be abused and used as punch bags; hopefully this will make you think twice in future and you will be punished, too many times police officers are treated appallingly by the justice system when it come to then being the victim.

Maybe they will also send you on some grammar and spelling lessons also; unless you are a fan of Virginia Woolf and her stream of consciousness writing style.

Assaulting a police officer should get you jail time. Probably you'll be charged with public intoxication and depending on what happened...resisting arrest.

The only possible upside is that you're willing to admit it and show some remorse if you did assault her. You might even be offered a choice of jail or rehab if you're lucky. If so...take the rehab. I don't have any thing against people having an occasional drink...I gave up booze 15 years ago (religious reasons)... but I have never cared for people who get drunk and go out in public. At home fine. Have some friends over and have fun. Well...maybe you'll get probation....but don't count on it.

Listen up girlfriend, this is the real deal. You're out on bail becuz they don't think you're a flight risk, not becuz they think the crime you're accused of is not serious. When dealing with the legal system, remember two things; Let your lawyer do all the talking; If you're guilty, plead that way. Get a kiss instead of a hug. A kiss is a light sentence, a hug is life on the installment plan. I spent years of my life being a complete idiot, but I always let my lawyer do the courtroom stuff. And when I was guilty and we all knew it, I pleaded so. For a first offence, even with it being an assault police, you can probably bring in enough good character witnesses to sway the judgement for a reduced sentence maybe even a suspended sentence, which means you do no time unless you commit another offence within a specified time. My advice to you, is do never drink till you're drunk again, and while you're on bail and facing judgement, don't do anything that will compromise your position in any way. And find better friends. Even my friends wouldn't let me do anything as stupid as assault an officer.

oh man oh man, are you a guy and you hit a chick officer? You are unlikely to get a custodial sentence, but it is taken very seriously to assault a police officer. Massive fine, quite alot of community service and a criminal record forever, that's your likely punishment. I just hope that one day you don't want a job where you will have a criminal record check, because you won't get it now!
Relax a little okay, you are very unlikely to go to prison if she was uninjured. You have been bailed, if it was a serious issue bail would not have been granted okay? If you had hurt her, you would probably do a month or so, sentanced to three. That's the max okay, and it won't happen. I suggest a written grovelling apology to the officer and an offer to donate money(£100) to a charity of her choice, which will look great in court and prove you are sorry.

Assault police is looked on as a serious offence by the courts, CPS and other police. However there are different levels of assault, without her having a visible injury it sounds like you slapped her or kicked out or something. As a first time offence it'll most likely be downgraded to Section 4 of the public order act and you'll recieved a fine, possibly a caution if you're lucky. It's unlikely that you'll serve time in prison for it.

Fines range, for public order between £80-£500 depending on what happened.

oh we people do stupid things when we are drunk hay and the next morning when the paranoia kicks in we wish we'd never gone out! assault police will get you a day in court where you plead guilty and get to see the low life's who go there every week for one thing an another and treat it as a day out and you realise that you are not one of them you do have a life and that you never what to be in that position again.
If you have never been in trouble before they will take into account the time you spent in custody when you were arrested and give you a fine or you have to pay compo to the police officer which if she didn't rec'v any injuries wont be to much, you will rec'v a criminal record and if you are ever stop checked in the future all your details will be on the police national computer and you will have warning signals for assault police! your not going to go to prison no spaces remember if they don't send a sexual offender to jail there not going to send you there.

You may or may not get jail time, depending on the mercy of the judge presiding. Your prior criminal history will come into play, and if it's as squeaky clean as you say, you might get off with some serious probabtion. However, by your description of the incident I sorta doubt that this was your first rodeo. A suggestion is this: if they even mention a substance abuse assessment and/or treatment, go for it. Maybe they'll even throw in a basic English class.

Are you in the UK? If so, there are seriously no prison spaces left hardly, I know of a nasty woman (not a friend, just someone I know of), she's just been charged with gbh on 2 people in a club and hasn't even been remanded, there is no space.

Get yourself a solicitor, they will be able to get you all the details the police have, they will also advise whats best.

I had a friend who was in your situation, she didn't remember anything about it and is still not sure, not sure of all the details but she got away with it when she got to court.

Hopefully you'll get something that will make you think about your actions.
The job is hard enough without drunken idiots like you making it harder!
I would suggest that you think long and hard about your actions and if you are big enough to go out and get stupidly drunk, you should be big enough to be responsible for your actions.
I'm not suggesting that they throw the book at you but I don't get paid enough to put up with being assaulted at work and I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate it either!
