Quite simply you have trained your dog not your dad so he will only respond to you! Sounds like you have a great bond with your dog. Long may it continue!

Your dog has learned that your Dad is the alpha male, you know leader of the pack like in wolf packs, you will have to retrain your dog to obey and this would be showing your dog that you are the pack leader, but you have to be firm yet gentle with your dog while training him/her or you can just simply have obedience training done in your community/town research this in your phone book and some petsmart stores also have obedience training you can also rent a dog training video at your local library for a small rental fee. Remember use a firm yet gentle voice when commanding your dog to come or stay

Its not the command or word that makes him obey, its the tone. Your dad is not saying it in the same tone as you do. My dogs are highly trained but will not respond to commands from other people if they are not said the same as the way I say them. I tend to have a soft singing kind of tone. My husband thinks he has to speak to my dogs in a deep commanding way. Thats why they don't understand him & won't do as he say's.

Cos you have a bond, and he's found his best friend.
ya know they say when you go get a pet its not the person that picks the best pet for him, its the animal that picks the best friend for them. And he chose you. Nice one

it's a really special bond; you raised him and he probably senses how much you love him and how your dad didnt want him to stay.
I have a little girl just like that. She is only mine.

you have petted him, while others never cared....sure he is now like your child, only doing as you command.
