They have the don't ask don't tell stance. They want to know what you can do in on the battle field, not in the bedroom.

It would not exempt you from being drafted. When males register for the selective service there is no question about sexual orientation. However once in the military if you are openly gay it would be grounds for discharge. If there is a draft though, the country will be in need of soldiers and may lax on that policy seeing as many would try to use that to get out of serving.

The military ban on gays was relaxed or ignored during WW2, Korea, Vietnam when the government wants as many recruits as possible, according to what I read in a book called Conduct Unbecoming, by (the late) Randy Shilts.

Military law, 10 U.S.C. 654, bans homosexuals from service.

However, "You can't use a gay ban with a draft," says Charles Moskos, a leading military sociologist, "because that would make it too easy for people to get out."

If gays aren't allowed in the military, it would be pretty useless to draft them. This is why, when military people get on my case about joining, I tell them I'm gay. They leave you the hell alone.

Nah...

My best friend Zigi is the definition of gay. An army recruiter told him it was "Just a phase" and the Army could make him a "real" man.

Only if they find a butt-plug in you during your physical.

Then it's official.
