Same thing with me. She had no other grandchildren other than me and my three sisters. SHe held on for ages until we could travel to Melbourne, we each visited her single file and spoke meaningless stuff - she could not speak back. It had a profound effect on her, the next day I was sick and so could not visit her. I stayed home by myself and heard the news when they came home that she had died that day.
Absolutely someone can hold on to life until they have seen what they have wanted to see. I would say that you must have a loving family that you mean that much to you Grandmother. This might sound trite to some but she obviously loved you a lot.
My Grandmother died peacefully because she saw her only son's children one more time - hard for me to understand but something I respect and will never forget.

Only God can answer that question, BUT it is wonderful to feel that maybe she did. I also watched my Grand Mother die many years ago, and I lived with her most of my childhood. I feel in my heart that if you were close as you sound like you ARE, God made a way for you to have very special moment together before she went home to be with Him to wait until you will join her. This is for you my Dear.
We knew little that morning that
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you Dearly, in death
we do the same. It broke our hearts
to lose you,you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you, the
day God called you home. You left
us peaceful memories. Your love is
still our guide, and though we cannot
see you, you are always at you side.
Our Family Chain is broken, and
nothing seems the same, but as God
calls us one by one, the Chain will
link again.

This happens a lot!! People know they are going to die and has a yearning to see a specific person before they can rest. My father died on my chest and my mother whilst I was wiping her face. My mother did not want to fly the 8,000 miles to visit me, but all of a sudden was in a hurry to visit me.. 3 weeks later she died on my bed. It was what was to be and she wanted to spend the last few days with me (she was perfectly healthy and died of a very sudden heart attack). My Grandmother was dying and everybody expected it to happen any second.. yet she waited 3 days to see her one son and died 10 minutes after he arrived!!

It's not a coincidence - she must have put a lot of effort into fighting against death. But it doesn't always happen as it did for you. Many people don't get that special last chance. You should consider yourself lucky.

It is a principle called "dying grace." It is manifested in the lives of many believers. I had the same experience with my mother. God allows us to do things that are very important to us before He takes us home.

That is a very intense experience. Yes, I believe God does give the time for last minute words or touch.
Thanks be to God.

This is a manifestation of one of the marvels of the human mind
We do not make use of it wn we are well & alive but at the last moment wn we are desperate & know tht we have no time left, we 'will' so hard, that even the Almighty has to grant us our wish.

This is possible, one can delay it, as all happenings, even accidents, get permission from you first. If you delay permission, you can delay the act. This is called will power.
Sometimes we are not so sensitive to get the gesture of the way of asking permission and we allow it unconsciously, so the accident happens.
