Umm yeah jail is possible!!

I wouldn't go running back to tell the police anything without first obtaining an attorney. Being drunk isn't going to have much sway w a judge either. Are you sure your friends aren't messing w you?

Being voluntarily drunk is not a defence and quite frankly quite insulting to the police officer you hit. I'm sure most of us have been VERY drunk before and never felt the need to punch a police officer - and I don't believe for one second you "Can't remember". Sounds to me like an obvious way to get out of a very embarassing interview the following morning.

I would say you were a fool for not admitting it because you may have received a caution, but actually, I'm quite glad you denied it as you're likely to get the book thrown at you in court, and deservedly so.

Let's just hope someone doesn't take offence to you simply doing your job one day, and give you a smack in the mouth as you did to the officer.

You are not in jail already? Where I come from the police take you to jail first upon hitting an officer. When I lived in Philadelphia I was on the scene at a situation where an elderly (about 60 years of age) woman hit a police officer in his bullet proof vest and she was immediately taken to the station as was her son who attacked (with fists ) the same officer for touching his mother. The judge was so lenient that I did not see either of them for a little while and they sold their house and moved very shortly after. They had been at that residence for about 40 years prior to that time. What ever you do NEVER EVER HIT A POLICE OFFICER. IT IS THE STUPIDEST THING YOU CAN DO. If the police come back for you for further questioning, tell then you woudl like to see a lawyer. If they do not come back, count your lucky stars.

Yes, you can go to jail for a first offence. Telling the Police you were so drunk that you cannot remember it will not help your case.

Fine and community service are most likely here, but jail is possible. If cop was badly injured this will influence the outcome.

Assaulting a policeman, verbally or physically; whether city, county, state, or Federal, is a serious offense. I'm surprised you were not immediately taken into custody.

Several years ago my boyfriend and I were arguing. He threatened to hit me. I called 911. The police came. During the interview, I asked for the officer's name and badge number. I had been drinking, and apparently, the officer thought I was being belligerent. I was handcuffed and taken to jail. I was fingerprinted and booked. When I revealed that I was to report for jury duty the next day, I was asked if there was anyone who could "bail me out". They allowed me to call my boyfriend to come to the station to bail me out. In the meantime, I was placed in a "holding cell".

My boyfriend "bailed me out", I went home, and served my jury duty. I was required to contact the Prosecuting Attorney's office, apprise that office of the circumstances of my arrest, and charges were dropped. The unfortunate circumstance is that the arrest continues to be a "matter of record", and any job application I complete has to note that.

Being "drunk" and not remembering what one does may seem like a good excuse; but, we are held accountable for our actions.

you were sober when you took the first drink. No one forced that into your system did they, thus you are responsible for you actions whether sober or drunk.
Then to compound the matter and say you never hit the officer when even your friends have stated that you did, does not bode well for your cause.
I see community service, alcohol education or some similar such punishment in your future. That is if you are lucky and do escape jail time. You need a lawyer. You need to grow up.

there are this way of super style of issues incorrect with this image i don't even understand the place to start. What i'll declare nevertheless is how are you able to declare, from *this* tale, that it particularly is extra perfect to be unlawful? Did you not examine the whole tale!?? the guy ended up ineffective for God's sake!!! And all because of the fact the racist law enforcement officers theory it may well be humorous to "drop off a inebriated Mexican at Taco Bell"... oh yeah, so humorous. Ha ha, i'm guffawing so stressful good now. and that i wager they are going to be guffawing too while they get their badges taken away. a lot damn xenophobia around here. that's what happens to you once you watch too a lot Fox Noise and CNN Lou Dobbs.

Being drunk is no defence in a judge's eyes. You have still assaulted a police officer, and that is a lot more serious than assaulting a normal person.

Yes you can go to jail for hitting an officer. That is a serious crime, and being drunk is not a valid excuse.

A police officer said you did and there are witnesses to the assault? That's good enough for a judge. Don't waste your time, impaired is not a defense, quite the contrary.
