I generally (at least when I'm in Canada) put the mark at 'cheap and cheerful' to be around $8-12. So roughly anything from the Italian Negroamaro Mezzomondo (it's the one with the light brown label) to the Chilean Santa Carolina brand. For the most part, I define cheap and cheerful as good enough to be drinkable, but not the sort of stuff I'll serve when I have company over - but when you're just looking for something to go with a pizza while watching the news, there's no need to break the bank.

When I'm having people over, I'm generally in the $20-35 range (which is where, IMNAAHO, you'll find the best value wines; pricey enough that they're actually spending some money making it, but cheap enough that you're not paying for the label), and for special occassions, upwards of $50 (not counting the stuff I have aging in my cellar).

As an aside, if you havn't tried your nakesake wine (D'Arenberg's Laughing Magpie, a Cote Rotie style blend out of Australia) you really should. It's about $25, and delicious - especially if you can stick it in a cellar for two or three years. It's a Vintages product (if you're in Ontario) so it's only out about twice a year, but definitely worth picking up a few bottles.

Cheers!

EDIT: I just noticed you're in BC (or at least have a link to a BC website). The Laughing Magpie is $30 out west (I just checked) and they still have about 600 bottles left in the system; mostly in the Lower Mainland.

Tesco constantly have various wines on a million/2 value can provide - you may get an £8 bottle of wine for £4 and it incredibly is all lots nicer than the bottles that initiate out much less costly. you're extra acceptable off going early in the day, throughout the week, in case you could, in spite of the undeniable fact that - understandably those can provide sell out rapidly! Asda additionally do can provide like 3 for £10 for the era of maximum of their variety of wines so which you would be able to %. up some stunning ones there. i'd steer nicely clean of the cheap, much less costly wines if I have been you - maximum of them are NASTY!
